i grew up surrounded by steven cohen’s 1988–2002 silkscreen collection, its presence woven into my world through the taste of my mother and grandfather. his work has always pulled me in. high contrast yet lucid, stark yet textured. i am deeply inspired by the avant-garde nature of his expression.
the creativity of steven cohen is found in the intersections of identity, history, and spectacle; his body is a live representation of transgression and the liminal. his art summons the social outcasts, shedding a light on the invisible. his identity becomes the focus of this reckoning; not as a self-centered act but rather as a ritual of revelation.
a mirror that breaks and reflects the contradictions of the world.
this piece is a reference to his collection, an homage to the fragments of myself assembling into who i will become, while embracing the beauty of being incomplete.
