My school taught the Good News translation (British English version), which is still my go-to. Habits die hard.

2024-05-18 00:06:20 +0000 UTCI am a ‘retired Catholic’, so is it weird that this video and discussion makes me think of ‘Backstroke of the West?’ Translations can be hard. But some are hysterical.

2024-05-17 09:03:54 +0000 UTCMy sister studied ancient Greek in college so she could read the original text of several of the books. I'm OK with reading a couple different versions to get the gist of the thought, with different translations showing different facets of the thought being translated.

2024-05-16 21:20:15 +0000 UTCYou vote for whom you want obviously, I'm not going to argue with you about that. But I would point out with the first one for instance that in the same chapter vs 37 and 38 that as the Israelites left a "vast mixed company" ie non Israelites left with them. These people saw the Israelites leaving with their God and decided to abandon their homes and go with them. Why? But, again, Anders we each make our own choice, you shared with us, I shared with you, we all vote for Jill.

2024-05-16 17:02:25 +0000 UTCI have a Bible that someone gifted me back in my teens. But my preference is now online editions: the NIV for the New Testament and Sefaria for everything in the Hebrew Bible

2024-05-16 16:51:46 +0000 UTCI have a lot of opinions on the Bible. If God is the God of the Bible, of Exodus 12:29, of 1 Samuel 15:3, of 2 Kings 2:23-25, then he is not worthy of worship. No one who murders children. or orders the murder of children, gets my vote.

2024-05-16 14:04:29 +0000 UTCA learned man was once asked which Bible translation he preferred. He said, "My Mother's". "Your Mother translated the Bible?" "Yes, into her daily life." To which, I can only say, "Amen!".
