Sleep deprivation: it's a fascinating thing. But obviously there's not much chance of a rest because...protagonist in a fantasy novel...
We've met their mother. Son will be hunting the arsonists down one by one and daughter will be overseeing the reconstruction. Or more likely vice-versa.

Entirely the wrong mood, I realise, but was I the only one to be reminded of Han Solo's "what an incredible smell" line from the original SW movie?

Edmund (the elder child) is a teenager who has still 'a few years' before he comes of age although it's not clear if that's at 18, 21 or some other random roll of Carolines dice. The daughter is "11-ish"

Nineteen. Hugo and Rosamund married at ~age 19, if I remember what Jill said that one time? Eldest son is a teenager. So at minimum Leo has several more years of somehow dealing with Rosamund's presence in his life and their mutual promises to love, honour and cherish. I can't imagine how he will cope. :)

After the post-wedding conversation, I started to wonder, how old are these children, anyhow? You know, she's 36, vaguely fantasy universe, how young was she married to Hugo, what is coming of age in their society, all those, "I bet Jill knows but hasn't shared yet," things.

Not even going to pretend that we didn't see this one comming. Classic trope, well executed.

It does, doesn't it. Also Caroline is acting suspiciously non-Caroliney about the whole thing.
