By popular request: COMBAT SHOES

A friend of mine said to me the other day, 'Jill, imagine if you went back 10 years and told yourself that in a decade you'd be making your living from videos where you stabbed corsets and kicked things in high heels'.

Just so you know, the corset video is happening this summer :D

Boots are very underrated :)

Oh long boots... I'm honestly obsessed with boots, I mean there's a literal "boots reveal" thing on my stream. I don't recognize boots shorter than knee high, mid-calf minimum, but oh my goodness how practical they are. The longer, the better. Two feet of snow? A muddy puddle right after? Grass? Sorry, didn't notice in my over knee boots, that don't even need knee pads for the most situations. Also I don't mind long heels or even stilettos in court, but in action... just no. Thanks for educating on wedges, I was considering them because people said they were "practical", but now they're forever out of my selection.

Thank you too :D

Thank you :)

Quick comment in regards to the "victorian boot" style heel, I have a couple of pairs of shoes with this style of heel, and I can vouch that they are by far the most comfortable and sturdy, aside from a low heel riding hood style. They are in fact the only style of high heel I can wear for long hours since I broke my back several years ago. I haven't tried sparring in them, but I would think it would be feasible. Great video, thank you! :)

Came on here to make a similar comment in regards to pointe shoes. It has been a while since I wore them, and I never tried to fight in them, however the soles, aside from being narrow, are also quite thin, as they are not meant to protect the foot from the ground, rather to assist in gliding across a dance floor. I wouldn't say they are clompy or uncomfortable once properly broken in (just my opinion) but they are definitely not made for combat. ;)

Makes sense! (also thank you for the mental image of noisy waddling ballerinas 😂)

Jill Bearup

Pointe ballet shoes are extremely clompy and uncomfortable if you try to walk normally in them. Ballerinas more or less waddle noisily around while moving backstage. I suspect Gwen is wearing demi-pointes (no giant solid tip). Which still sucks because the sole is very narrow on both. Probably why she's hanging in the air most of the time.

"Springs... *silly only-somewhat-abashed grin* to mind..." Bwahaha, well played there, and another great & fun video!

Maybe a topic for another episode... 😁

I am pleased by this information 😁 Thank you for your commitment to empirical testing!

Boooooots!!! So underrated.

Stiletto heels can be used as weapons, though. You can put out an eye with that.

Boots, boots, always boots. Solid, lace-up, waterproof boots. Not too heavy if you’re going to be running around in chainmail al day, because you need to watch the pounds.

I haven’t done combat in Crocs, but I have played racquetball in Crocs, and it... did not go well. It’s not anything to do with comfort or maneuverability, but durability. Over time they must have worn down as I would plant my feet to prepare to swing after being in motion, since one day while playing my foot just came right through the side of the Crocs, tearing the top from the bottom, and I was left with a sad floppy broken mess of a shoe. So for high impact pressure, Crocs were not made.
