COVER REVEAL :D

And a lot of blithering about the things that I now need to go get Scott to fix! Full front cover in HD also attached to this post if you'd like to see it without me waving it around.

COVER REVEAL :D

Comments

Wow, I am late to answering this, but yes, you can order it through Ingram Spark so it can be stocked in any bookshop you care to name (most notably yours, in this instance :D)

Jill Bearup

The matte looks gorgeous and I’m so excited for this book!

Samantha Tucker

So, I know this is late (sorry for that, work's been... a lot) but I thought I'd pass on my congratulations. Even with the odd issues, the cover looks great! I'll try to avoid reiterating what others have said (and I know you've probably already heard this) but: One of the issues going from digital to print is 'subtle difference' tends to become 'imperceptible', so generally you'll need to increase the contrast in gradients to maintain the same effect, especially with darker colours; hence the not really green on the print version. My issue with glossy varnishes is that they often feel sticky and pick up finger prints like nobody's business, so I would err towards matt myself, especially if you're not introducing foils or metallic inks into the process. The dust is probably paper dust from the manufacturing process... that stuff gets everywhere!

Berthulf

I think best option is matte with glossy bits (like name and swords). Though glossy with matte bits on postits. If your printer doesn't do those (or they are out of budget) solid matte is better

Denis Drozdoff

I love this so much!! This makes me unreasonably happy!

Cheyanne Lencioni

I’m happy to proof if you still need it!

Simzy

Definitely! :)

Jill Bearup

I'd also be happy to help proof read if you still need it!

StitchWitch

If you still need someone to proof your copy, I'd be interested in helping!

Heather Cutler

game to proof the e-copy. Would it be the ARCv1.1 or is there a more current copy to be proofed?

Carol Wang

I always prefer matte, less glary reflections taking away from the art

SpicyMcHàggi

I would also love a signed copy, but I have my hands full just dealing with life right now. Sorry.

Leonard Richard Stanway

Eeeeeeeeeek!!!! It's so exciting to see you holding copies of YOUR BOOK! I'm so happy for you! Although I prefer the idea of a glossy cover, I'm afraid that fingerprints would drive me nuts! And I would love to proofread for you but I'm afraid I am not very reliable this year. Weird, right? However! I absolutely want a signed copy of the book. So you can start planning logistics for author signing!

Ann Brookens

I just saw this video by Tom Scott and was wondering if your book will be available in this library too? https://youtu.be/ZNVuIU6UUiM?si=IOkDqEjup6QlDzTU

Claudia

I'd love to help out proofing an e-copy! ADORE the cover, particularly the post-it notes and little comments. :D

Emily Hogarth

Matte for sure

Leonard Richard Stanway

I know that it is probably too late, but given the different hand writing I was wondering if you could have each character write their name on the title page. You could repeat it on the last page but with the elevated titles and married names? Caroline, I am sure, would appreciate her name there!

Leonard Richard Stanway

Matte over glossy for sure. Also, if you still need volunteer editors, I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for that!

orestes

Matte also has less glare.

Thomas Conder

You're calm, when I got the two and only copies of my book I was bouncing with joy, and that was in the printers🙄 Congrats on being able to hold them, hope you could love them after the video. Would be happy to proofread again if you still need volunteers, and Leo is NOT a smiley face guy, I say that as a smiley face guy 😊 Good luck with the move, I'm looking forward to gifting this book to friends.

Fenrir Wolfganger

I have no real opinions on matte vs glossy I would however love to be able to get a signed copy from you (I'd be happy to pay for it)

Mat Streets

Ah, MS Word and page numbers, what a pain! Click on the page with the incorrect number, then go to Insert > Page Number > Format Page Numbers, choose Continue from previous section.

Eloise (San1984)

I love Matte covers on books, and I love the cover, can't wait for a physical release!

Jenna Briggs

For reading matte is superior imo, for having price stickers on it and good to take off without worry - glossy all the way 😅 Will get right on that ARC (I’m so excited) btw question: will they be available to order through “regular” booksellers? Or no/just Amazon? (Asking as a bookseller who would very much like to stock the book when it comes out)

Nora Reisenberger

This is great! I love the comments from everyone on the cover, especially Leo's! 😂

L J

^echoed :)

StephanieGail

squeeeeeeeeee! I prefer the matte finish better. I don't like getting fingerprints all over my books. I so appreciate the separate fonts to clarify "reality" v "story". And hash marks or graphics to separate scenes. I'm so excited!!!

Kenzie Anne

I agree with everyone else who ha ssaid "it's wonderful to see you holding a book!" Looking at them on-screen, I think matt works better. Most of my paperbacks are matt (or possibly satin) rather than glossy. The glossy ones always remind me of "Country Living" or "Cosmopolitan", lifestyle magazines rather than fiction. As for moving house, take your lead from Rosamund and cross that bridge when you get to it :)

Dave Sheddi

Exciting!

niadhf .

I'm in favour of the matte version that discourages fingerprints.

Michael C.

I love the cover! I have no real preference between matte and glossy, but slightly lean towards matte. I’d love to help with your proofreading, I already do this for several authors and find it fun. And knowing the book gods, just assume the move will happen at whatever point during publication is most inconvenient for you!

Diane Kassmann

I love it! So excited!

SR Nulton

It's so cool to see you holding your book. I'm so happy for you

Jim Sanderson

I actually marked up my pdf copy of your last posted version, but am not sure what to do with it.

Tony Hansen

I wouldn't worry too much right now about the centering of the spine until after final editing is finished.

Tony Hansen

Holding a printed copy in your hand is so satisfying, isn't it?

Tony Hansen

They might have taken the gradient out assuming it was a mistake? For proof run, they might not have fussed with centering the spine.

William Wallace

I'm not a fan of variant covers (seems like a cheap trick to try and sell the same thing twice) but perhaps some day you can see the "Caroline" cover rather that the "Jill" cover. Although even then I'd prefer "huge tracts of land" to "acres of bosom." As to how to handle Caroline vs Rosamund on the audiobook: That can be done either with a slight difference in accent or adding a lot of narrator "Caroline said / Rosamund responded."

Ekij

Matte is the way to go if fingerprints irritate you and has been more prevalent in recent years. But both look good. As a designer, I wouldn't fiddle with the spine width until you've got the interior properly typeset, as it can and will change the production length of the book. Chapter headings are usually lower on the page, and combining that with different body fonts can change how many pages in each chapter. And there really has to be another round of proofing after things are typeset and printed because the number of bizarre errors that slip in after that upload are immense. I've beta read a few books and still find random typos in the "final" versions.

Taia Hartman

Wasn't there supposed to be acres of bosom? Edit: Will you be recording an audiobook? And if so, how will you distinguish between the two fonts?

Anders

Glossy. And green would be good.

ABay

Very excited! Would be happy to markup a pdf for you!

dave allyn

Love the stickies and everyone’s notes on cover. And “sword lady” books!! Squeee! Matte is my vote. Too much reading time spent buffing off fingerprints. So excited for you!

Barbera Radford

This looks lovely! I'll add my voice to the "preference for matte, but it's not a dealbreaker" crowd. As someone who reads with a book in one hand, and a cup of coffee/tea in the other, matte is less slippery. It also give off more of a 'piece of art' vibe vs. 'a poster' feel. I'd also be happy to red-pen a copy of the book. I have several reading devices, so I can also provide comment on how the formatting looks at different scales.

Sandra H

I'm also inclined toward matte books but follow your heart!

Natalie Arnold

Such a lovely thing to wake to on a Monday morning! Really excited for this. I'd be happy to proofread it; no qualifications (I'm a. accountant, not a wordsmith) other than an eye for detail and a desire to help get this book out into the world. 😎

Aimee King

Oo yay! First off while I don't usually go for pink, I love the pink spine with the pink sticky notes, they both pop! As for matte vs shiny, I'd lean towards matte just cuz I know I'll get finger prints all over the shiny one, but if it is shiny that's not the end of the world. So excited for you!!!!

Flora's Fiber Farrago

Also, I'd be happy to give the book a proofread, to the best of my ability. Caught a few typos in the most recent copy and noted them, but maybe they've already been addressed?

Abigail Poirier

Went to edit my comment, and deleted it accidentally, I think. Anyway: I have a slight preference for matte, I think it seems nicer/higher quality/more upscale/more modern. It may be none of those things, but that is my perception, for what it's worth.

Abigail Poirier

To me, matte seems more...upscale? More modern? Nicer? Can't find the exact word, but I do prefer it.

Abigail Poirier

Sadly all my books are packed, because I'm ALSO moving (I feel your pain & stress), so I can't check books to compare glossy and matte ones atm. However, from memory, I do think matte books lose their color faster when exposed to sunlight. When we packed we noticed that most of the colors of the spines of the matte books were faded, but the glossy ones were in much better shape. Red colors tent to fade most, blues were most stable. Any red color will become very pink-ish. Pink goes to near white. Again, noticeably less so with glossy prints. Anyway, take from this what you will :) Hope it helps. I think the cover looks awesome! The green does add something for me, so would be nice to see that on the physical copy indeed. Overall, can't wait to own this book, good luck with all the last steps!!

Annelies van Nuland

I’m another one with a matt preference, with no other real reason other than that is because that seems to be what most of my bookshelf consists of. Congratulations on getting to here! You are amazingly calm, I think I would be bouncing around the room like a demented Tigger.

Liz C

Squee. Just squee!

Miriam D

It is coming along wonderfully. I have a slight preference for the matte, but would recommend using whichever shows the gradient better once that is worked out. Also, happy to PDF proof once the interior is formatted.

AC C

Matt

Rose Sedgwick

I think the glossy looks appropriately girlish with the cover, but you should really do what makes you happy. No finger stains on the matte one would be a very good reason to choose matte. But what a milestone, congratulations!

Bleeb90

Awesome :D (And I've only had two outside opinions so far, but the matte seems to be the favourite)

Jill Bearup

Thank you, I really appreciate it. :)

Jill Bearup

I do not understand MS Word at all. I feel this is a fault of mine, and not it, but still. Interestingly on the spine alignment, we used the cover templates Amazon gave us, and when I looked at the proof PDF on the website I said 'that looks off centre, it's too far forward, but we used the template so eh, let's give it a go'. So I'm hoping if I just make sure it's centred on the KDP 'approve this' page, no matter what the template says, it'll turn out fine. I mean, it's fine already. But better :D

Jill Bearup

It's so cute!!! Love the matte. Yes, I'd be thrilled to proof!

Emily Flanigan

Yay! The cover looks amazing! Yes, ok it’s not perfect and you want it to be perfect, but also…. I think it looks really good, so be proud. I genuinely cannot wait to put it on my bookshelf. That being said, take your time, you’re doing incredibly well!!! Xx

Jemima Woodard

It's hard to see what you're referring to but It can be very difficult to get things perfectly aligned and nudging it now might make it worse for a subsequent print. (i.e. it's trying to be centered but ended up a little too far 'front' so you move it back and the next print run it's correct or a little too far 'back' and looks either a little back or two littles back.) The slight blurring might be a re-scale issue from the original image to the actual pixels used on cover. I feel your pain with MS word doing stupid things with numbering.
