But people who do understand the political situation (or think they do, or don't care) are unlikely to comment that they know what's going on. Northern Ireland did away with the 11+ because apparently it was causing stress to the children. And the grammar schools realised they needed an entrance exam because streaming is a fact of life even if it's unpopular. Alas each side of community declined to cooperate on the exam so there are two separate entrance exams in NI for secondary school. I suppose we should be glad that each school doesn't require its own exam. This is the foolishness that happens when your secretary of education doesn't have very much of an education to speak of themselves.
