you’re note about trump saying “stage directions” i think is a good word for what i’ve been trying to explain over both campaigns. Like when he says “LLLAAAWWW ANNDDD OOORRRRDDDEEERRRRR” like someone has explained Dog Whistle Politics to him and he’s running with it.

It definitely didn't last night though, he fell 100% flat. Ps I really liked your interview with Jacobin, there aren't enough commentators on the left talking about the longer term trends with the same clarity

2020-10-23 18:46:21 +0000 UTCCNN post-debate poll had Biden winning it comfortably (51 to 39, and trouncing Trump on issues like handling the pandemic). But you're right, I doubt this has a huge influence on the outcome, even if it was good Biden was reassuringly sharp by his standards — Matt

2020-10-23 18:22:24 +0000 UTCI was kind of surprised at how confident and coherent Biden looked in the first half of the debate, the "stand up to Corn Pop" vibe landed in a way he couldn't manage in the first one. I'm not sure how much this is going to matter, but I'd be surprised if he lost ground in the polls
