Far Cry Primal ultrawide and wider max FOV fix

The game was released in 2016 and, like other Far Cry games, had its max FOV limited at 21:9 and wider. Surprisingly, even now over 5 years later, PCGW has no notes of this nature and the WSGF report still had it rated gold for 21:9. I slightly updated the report today from "No issues" to "Minor issues" without having played the game to know if it's any worse than that, but the score remained. More importantly, it was an issue to address, and you can guess what I did about it!

What could be part of the reason there were no visible complaints or requests is that unlike later games of the series, the game misleads the player by making it look like they can select up to 120 FOV in the settings, but the reality is that it becomes vert- past a certain point. Unless one would compare to 16:9 at a higher field of view, the issue is invisible.

Following my research into Far Cry 6, I thought that this is something I could address as well. After some hours of examining the code, I had the solution ready, boiled down to a simple patcher. Then I found out that the game does not expose the relevant code until runtime, so I had to consider making a trainer to modify it in the memory.

Eventually I decided to experiment and go in the way of DLL injection. There are some flaws with this approach and I've seen people run into issues related to missing .NET libraries when using others' solutions, but if it goes well, it could be a good alternative to having to launch a trainer each time. I hope there is feedback to that end and I'm always ready to make it into a trainer if needed.
