Aegon took back the dragon glass candles for a number of reasons. As Te mentions, to avoid being entangled and losing a dragonglass candle in the process, but also because he had need of it elsewhere.

Mosef

I would consider it to be similar to the diversion of Anglicanism, with a lot more community, personal responsibility and connection to the gods, along with less doctrine.

Mosef

Probably for plausible deniability - on both their parts. Bart is loyal to Westeros and would probably feel duty bound to come clean about being able to communicate with Aegon. Especially when Westeros requests his aid during the war and all their requests get ‘lost’ in transit lol I am curious if Aegon will give it back to them when he comes to clean up the aftermath of the war.

Te

As I was rereading the chaps nth time while waiting for new chaps I want to clarify one thing , what is the real reason the aegon took glass candle back ?

Lazybeep

That was what Aegon said in one of the earlier chapters to Jaehaerys about his mistakes

John

Great chapter! I have so many thoughts about the following lines lol. “ They understood that peace was no longer an option and so, both sides planned for a war that both sides, those who survived, would later regret. Dragons did not belong to any particular line... Nor had they an appreciation of the son or descendants of their previous’ line. As so, the Dance of Dragons would teach.” It sounds like the Targs of Westeros will lose their dragons. Which, thank goodness, as I’ve personally never been a fan of either side and I agree with Aegon that their government style would never work long term so this infighting is fated to continue. Not even mentioning the fact that the Old Gods are actively working against them. Them having dragons will mean continuous civil war (not counting canon events later down the line). The thing that’s giving me butterflies (Im biased 🫣) is the thought that the dragons will literally ‘say’ “fudge this, we’re out” and dip to Elamaerys (or will they stay with the velaryons…) and then hold grudges against the Westerosi Targs for all time because of the dance. Sort of like the people of Rhoynar, where they past down the memories and each generation seems to have inherited the pain so the hate never dims. Happy New Year ☺️

Te

This is a question from the last chapter that I am still curious of. How does his version of the faith of the seven works? Is it a combination of Anglicanism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Silmarillion creation myth influencing the faith? Along with a tolerance of magic to a certain degree. Is like passages and scriptures from the bible are added to the seven pointed stars? I suggest The book of Solomon, Proverbs, and 1st and 2nd Timothy, and 1st Peter should be added in order for the populace to have better morals and standards, but you do you. I am just wondering how is it different compared to the Westerosi variant/rite?

Don Dieta

Only 85 pages in like 9 days of writing, Boom? Disappointed...Tsk Tsk 😋 Happy new year, can't wait for more!

Coconut mango

Hi new here I just binge read ur odysessey trilogy and this . And I am so addicted to the amount of details u put in ur work that every time i reread a chapter I find a new thing which i missed and i proclaim atticus x emily greater then aegon x gael

Happy new year! 1) Yes. Rhaenys and Corlys don't know it but they almost certainly saved the life of Laena and Corlys the Younger. Probably Jocelyn too. And yes, Daeron and Laena are aware. Aye, Laena gets to live a lot longer than she did in Canon, even if she will carry the wounds of the childbirth all of her remaining life. 2) It's pretty inevitable that enmity exists. The Hightowers basically raised the kids to believe their sister and cousin want them dead and Rhaenyra will never lose her insecurity about her brothers because of their mother and grandfather. Aemond was definitely an idiot by trying to scare the two boys but he's never had much control over his impulses anyway and he found no reason to gain control from his family, making it all the worse. In all honesty, he's probably exactly like Daemon who really was fortunate to have had Baelon the Spring Prince as father, who tempered him a lot. Plus Viserys was pretty laidback and fun loving elder brother. Which Aemond doesn't have because Aegon's own issues are pretty bad too. 3) Viserys can't help but do Viserys things. One other thing that isn't as apparent too, is that Viserys doesn't often see his grandchildren by Rhaenyra. The Blacks are much more concentrated around Dragonstone because they've basically given up the capital with how much more forceful Alicent and her allies have been in shoring up support there as a consequence of feeling pressured due to lack of dragon support. The threat of assassination is not preposterous, something that Rhea drilled into Rhaenyra's head. Daemon's death helped with that too. So Viserys' favouring is also a stupid way of him to endear himself to a grandson he sees maybe a few times a year. and yes, you're right...he's blinding himself but also...he's not being really considered all that much by his small council or by his daughter. Of course, part of it is his fault, as Rhaenyra has tried to talk to him about hampering her brothers, which Viserys denied, and talked to Viserys to get Helaena for Daemon, which again Viserys did not press and caved in to Alicent's demands, but some of it also by his Small Council who aren't telling him shit. (TBF not that Viserys will really listen) 4) I toyed with the idea of Laena dying but I can't really see a way of doing it without affecting the legitimacy of the story so Caraxes had to be it. Plus, I find it quite poetic really as well. 5) Daemon the Younger's dragon will probably be cleared up in two chaps I think. 6) Yup, the Velaryon's allying with the Blacks is a massive 'fuck' moment for the Greens. It also means that they have to be inordinately more clever to get what they want...and a lot more treacherous (as hinted). And yes...this Dance will be a lot more bloody. A lot more. 7) Re Aegon II - no comment. 8) Criston Cole's hate is not for Rhaenyra...but for Daemon. There'll be something about this soonish...I think. 9) Aegon really does have a 'prophetic' nature to him TBF. Of course, its his memories but also his demeanour. Like for example sitting on a mountain and watch over the city he's building. Bartimos picks up on that. Aegon also knows the value of having this kind of fervorous belief in him. After all, look at what Christ managed. Being the golden icon of both his family and their people will have a lasting impression and that is why he's surrendered himself to the role he's playing. In many ways, he can be considered a prophet, honestly. 10) Laenor wants to do that but whether he can...who knows. He has a lot of problems that he might not be able to get away from. Especially when he learns that the Velaryons have allied themselves with the Blacks. Can he really stand aside and let Laena and his nephews and nieces go in danger? OTL Laenor died (I believe that if he did disappear, he probably did so because of the bastards and the problems and shame of them, not anything else) but this Laenor probably won't nor have the hang ups of OTL. Stay tuned, I guess! 11) Rhaenys, Corlys, Viserys, Baelon, Rhaenyra will all have a myriad of reactions. The constitution (which will filter through to Westeros - along with the High Valyrian copy of SPS) and the meaning of it. The idea of only Targs being allowed dragons will appeal to Rhaenyra whilst Rhaenys and Corlys will see it as a betrayal almost. It's hard not to. After all, it appears as if Aegon had written it with them in mind. It'll be interesting! 12) Yep, the Elamaeri Targs will be busy for the next centuries and not in a way that Aegon originally expected (not that he'd live long enough to see that ban lifted let alone see the war). 13) As am I ;p. The reactions will probably won't be focused though. Not with how fast paced the next chapters will be. The reactions will probably much later nearer to the end chapters.

Mosef

Nope. I can't show you everything because everything is not yet discovered. I've shown Elamaerys but right now...nope. Not yet. Lol no. Misaragorn is def not Vhagar size. Larger than Caraxes now and probably 80% of Vermithor's size (Caraxes is about 70-75% size of Vermithor probably)

Mosef

Yes the two have dragon hatchlings. Aemma and Viserys. Viserys is planned to be Viserys Royce. I didn't remain creative - the twins are Jaehaerys and Jaehaera. The name is mostly because of Hightower influence. They want them to be symbols. Yes. Duncan Waters is one of Daemon the Elder's bastard but presently, he is known as Duncan XX, a son of a knight. The truth gets revealed not too long from now. Aelor is the second boys name. They're at Claw Isle.

Mosef

I think I'm pretty good at freestyling (bullshitting :D) my way out of literary chokepoints (Imagine me parkouring myself out of WWI no mans land) so I think I should be good. At least it will add to the challenge ;p. I think I'll probably call quits around...CH52-55? Mid fifties I'd say at most. About sequel. Minimum three years I think.

Mosef

:( I can't say more. But really...:(. Happy new years to you too.

Mosef

Not quite but probably not that far off scary if i'm honest!

Mosef

Glad you enjoyed the two POVs! There'll be a lot more POVs of Elamaeri than there will be of Aegon in these chaps. Bartimos unfortunately suffers from distance and split loyalties, if it can be called that. Friendship is great but sometimes...it can't make up the distance. The creatures will be fascinating little subplot in the sequel ;). Happy new year to you too!

Mosef

Happy new year!

Mosef

They're definitely resembling an Earth culture but not entirely. Tbh, they're a mixture of a couple of cultures.

Mosef

A bunch of Tyrions (I kid, I kid!) Just a sums thing. Wouldn't pay much attention to it.

Mosef

Mosef

Personally. I'm rather hoping it will continue until the "Dawn War". With the frequent changes in POV, the need for Aegon as MC isn't really needed later to create the most awesome and well written fanfiction/novel ever. GRRM has nothing on this story it has the potential to be infinitely better. To pass the time so to speak, filler chapters of exploration of Sothoryos , Ulthos, Far eastern Essos and it's people and legends. for example I'm dying to know more about the city of winged men.

Kunta

Will you allow the velaryons to continue being a dragon riding family or allow for the plot to ensure that they dont? I always thought that was the second biggest mistake the old king did the first being marrying rhaenys to corlys and not to viserys.

NobleBoy24 .

Reincarnation into a descendant works. Although author has said he won't be doing sequels in the immediate long term. This story is so lovely and has such exciting spin offs possible

Rodney Chari

oooh native people under the yoke of filthy xenos? this just keeps getting better. Also what’s the .5 on the population? U can’t exactly cut a person in half me thinks.

Duy

I hope you don’t end this book with the death of Aegon, I’m looking forward too seeing how his future defendants will develop elamearys later on and how they will fight the night stalkers. It would be cool if Aegon lived on some how to that time though magic or could past on this thoughts though death somehow. And if you have to end the book before then with no sequel or anything I how you can right a whole chapter about the future of elamearys after he dies. Thanks awesome chapter and happy new years!

Wilder

On the map you made with ocean currents on it, it looked like the currents on the northern west coast of Westeros ran south west ending up just at the top of elamaerys, so it could be possible they ended up their. But if they ended up on an island to the north west that would be cool to read about later too

Wilder

I see thanks

Skruffy

Good chapter as always. It looks like Rhaenys and Corlys took Aegon's warning seriously and conducted a very thorough investigation thus learning that the Maesters and acolytes from the Citadel were spying on them for House Hightower, and decided to get rid of them. I'm guessing that Laena and Daeron were also made aware of this fact given that they will rule Driftmark if anything happens to Corlys. It sad that Laena lost the second twin (Lucerys) and she is right it is not fair but at least she managed to survive childbirth in this timeline and will be there to see her children grow, though that in no way makes up for having lost a child. Corlys really did go all out in finding a very good surgeon and healer to replace the Maesters and acolytes from the Citadel. I also like that you mentioned that Laena and Rhaenyra are good friends as the TV show skipped over this fact as in the books it was mentioned that Rhaenyra and Laena were good friends. I see that the emnity between Rhaenyra and Alicent's children exist even in this timeline but I guess there was no escaping that fact and it looks like Aemond picked a fight with Daemon the Younger by insulting the memory of Daemon something Viserys clearly did not appreciate. Add to the fact that Aemond a 13 year old boy tried to scare his nephew a boy only 7 yeards olds with a knife, show that this emnity within House Targaryen of Westeros has already gone too far. Its really sad to see a family destroy itself, something I hope that Alicent and House Hightower will be made to pay for. Still, I have to say I really don't like how Viserys so blatantly favored Daemon the Younger over Aemond automatically. I agree with Aegon's statement to Bartimos that the blame for the Dance of the Dragons can completely laid at Viserys feet, as he seems to be wilfully blinding himself to the war for the throne that everyone in Westeros knows will erupt the moment he dies. It also looks like Aemond has come to the realisation that Viserys is a piss poor father and decided to claim Caraxes for himself, and he did not lose an eye in this timeline. I have to say I am a bit disappointed by this as I was hoping the Daemon the Younger would claim Caraxes but I guess with Vhagar unavailable Caraxes was the only Dragon around that Aemond the other two being Cannibal and Sheepstealer. This does raise the question of which dragon Daemon the Younger will claim as I doubt either Baelon and Rhaenyra will want him to claim a hatchling so I'm guessing they will want him to claim Sheepstealer who should also be a rather large dragon or maybe Seasmoke (if something unfortunate happens to Laenor, though I hope not). It also looks like Daemon the Younger and Jocelyn Velaryon are going to be bethrothed to each other which put Vhagar, Meleys and Seasmoke firmly in the Black camp. Something which the Greens at this moment have absolutely no answer for even if they do have Dreamfyre and Caraxes on their side. It also looks like the elder of Daemon's two bastard sons is going to claim Meleys via betrayal which make me worry about Rhaenys as I am guessing Duncan Waters might kill Rhaenys and steal Meleys. It looks like this Dance of the Dragons is going to be much more bloody and dangerous. I also find it interesting that Aegon II is refered to as King in the histories while Rhaenyra is refered to as Princess. I'm guessing this might be due to you Aegon's influence as he did mention if he lives long enough he will help settle matters after the Dance of the Dragons and stabilize the situation of House Targaryen of Westeros, though I suspect while doing that he will also solidify Elamaery's independence and neuter any threat to it. I also look forward to seeing how different Aegon II will be in this story compared to in canon counterpart, as you did mention he is not the same as his canon counterpart given that his interaction with Aegon gave him the experience of what its like to loved simply for who he is without expectation. Another thing I must admit I am very curious as to what Criston Cole's problem is with Rhaenyra in this timeline as she obviously never slept with him and dishonored him in anyway so I am curious as to where Criston Cole's hatred for Rhaenyra and her faction comes from as he seems to have already have had that hatred before Aegon returned for Rhaenyra and Baelon's wedding. The scene between Bartimos and Aegon was also well done, I shows how time, circumstances and distance have changed the nature of their friendship but Aegon still cherishes their friendship though he has to make demands of Bartimos like taking back the Glass Candle because he needs to use it for something else eventhough he knows it will prevent Bartimos and his family from keeping in proper contact with Valaena which would hurt Bartimos dearly. Hopefully, Aegon will learn how to make more Glass Candles in future and if not he will return the Glass Candle to them later once the conflict in Westeros is settled. I also liked hearing Bartimos's thought regarding Aegon and Elamaerys and how even he has begun to wonder if Aegon really is a Prophet, though Aegon of course gave him no clear answer as I suspect Gael will be the only person with whom he will ever be entirely truthful to about his previous life. Bartimos is also right that once the invited Westerosi nobles return to Westeros, a lot of issues are going to rise up against Elamaerys, especially once it is revealed that Breannei is actually Daemon's bastard daughter, and she is the one who married Castory,Aegon's heir and future Archon of Elamaerys. That and the knowledge of Elamaerys is organised. It also looks like Leanor has decided that he wished to leave Westeros and move to Elamaerys. I doubt Aegon will have any problem with that and given that Leanor is gay and unlikely to ever sire children, Aegon has no worries of a non-Targaryen dragonriding family popping up in Elamaerys though I wonder what laws he has in place in the event of such a happening and I am sure Aegon has taken that into account as he did give Aegon II an open invitation to move to Elamaerys if he ever wants to. Lets see If Leanor will manage to get his happy ending in this story by managing to move to Elamaerys and leave Westeros behind. Though I am curious as to how Rhaenys and Corlys will react once they hear Leanor's account of what Elamaerys is like as well as the magic of Old Valyria that Aegon and his family has brought back into the world. The scene with Trytas was also well done. I was curious as to what he and Uthrik had been upto now that they are in Elamaerys. It's just like Trytas to pick a wife who would be completely blunt and have the temperament to keep him on his toes as well. Its also nice to see how family life and semi-retirement is treating him. Though it looks like he will be returning to active duty soon though he will no longer be a frontline soldier as I doubt Aegon would risk Trytas coming into danger. I have to say I enjoyed Valarr p.o.v. and how he is glad that Vaerra has decided to join him in his adventuring, because he now has someone who will talk back to him and also give lots and lots of sex. At least we know where his priorities are though I suspect that Vaerra will be denying him sex for a while after this latest stunt not taking into account that Aegon is likely to club him on the head to putting himself and his wife in such danger. I looks forward to learning more about these Washqutet People and the Continent that they come from as it looks like Aegon and his family might have a magical battle against a beings who are not part of the human race. Also it looks like Elamaerys might be expanding to the Southeast after 183 AC given that it looks like they will be fighting a protracted war against there Zekiras you mentioned for decades. Looks like Aegon and his family will be very busy in the coming century. I look forward to seeing what the reaction will be in Westeros once the full revelation of Elamaerys is revealed to the Westeros nobles. Also Happy New Year !!!!!!!!

Sukhraj Singh

Fuck me!! what a chapter. absolutely fucking amazing!

Kunta

Can you post a map rendering of everything? Of the Elamerys and the new region? How big is MC’s dragon now? Vhagar size or Almost

TyrantGod

IIRC - He is Daeron Velaryon, 2nd son of Corlys' nephew Vaemond (unless he is his brother, like the show HOTD). Thus, a relative to Laena and Laenor

Endless.108

Happy New Year I always find it is interesting with what is going on in Westeros. Tidbits regarding Westeros Targ families + extension (and dragons) I noted from this chapter BLACKS: Rhaenyra Targaryen (Silverwing) + Baelon Royce (Vermithor) Children: Daemon, Aemma, Child #3 (Name?). Aside from Daemon, do the other Black children have dragon? Are their family name Royce? Rhaenys Velaryon (Meleys) Laena Velaryon (Vhagar) - children: Corwyn, Jocelyn, Corlys, and Lucerys (deceased) Laenor Velaryon (Seasmoke) - though look like he will stay in Elamaerys with his lover Joffrey GREENS: Alicent Hightower Children: Aegon (II) the Younger (Dreamfyre), Aemond (Caraxes), Jaehaerys (Aegarax), Haelena (Summer), Daeron (Tessarion) Grandchildren: Aegon and Haelena's twins. (Name unknown - what are their names if you don't mind me asking?) I assumed Duncan Waters is one of Daemon the Elder's bastard sons. Can we know the other son's other name? What are their current situation?

Endless.108

this story just got deeper 🤯.Great chapter!

Condo Emebo

he is a velaryon cousin, son of corlys' brother i believe.

helljumper aka MA

Well it was bound to happen but exciting either way. You seem to have a clear plan in which direction you want to take the story especially given the texts from the future. Although I am afraid it limits if you want to change how the story goes at some point. Also are you willing to say how long this story is going to be? Also if/when there is a sequel? Anyway thanks for the chapter.

Jubex

Noooo rhaenys what’s going to happen to you? Great chapter though and I hope you have a good new years

Grace Gast

Stalking Hunters…Wendigo? 🤔

ProtagNeptune

Thank you so much for the great chapter! Great to see Trytas enjoying the fruits of his labor, and finally get the much anticipated fishing trip! I really enjoy the way you characterize raising a family in both this chapter and the last. Both POVs show how while not perfect both fathers are thinking practically on how to raise their children and set them up for success later in life. Whether that be through securing opportunity’s or ensuring they have good work ethic. Nice little moments that really humanize the population and show how life is changing for the better for the Aegon’s people. It’s a shame that Aegons relationship with Bartmoss has soured but it’s natural I suppose. Time and distance has seen them grow apart both in their ways of thinking and their priorities. Aegons natural cynicism obviously doesn’t help, although Bartmoss would do well to head his warnings. Vallar being reckless, even with his wife there, doesn’t really surprise me although he is definitely gonna be in the dog house for a while after that stunt. The fact that there is seemingly another continent south west of them full of things that brutally rule over humans is both interesting and frightening. Naturally Aegons descendants will have to rectify that with fire and blood but the fact it will take so long makes me think they either have magic or there are natural conditions that hinder any large scale campaign. As always hope you have a fantastic day and look forward to the next chapter. Happy new years as well if you celebrate!

Hello

Thanks for the chap and Happy New Year.

Dragonslayer29

Hey, Happy New Year. Thanks for the chapter. I have questions regarding the Daeron guy (Husband of Laena); I forgot who he is. I’m especially sure he ain't Viserys, son with Alicent.

Skruffy

I wonder if they have a form of unarmed martial arts? I know they do wrestling and possibly boxing, but I wonder if they combine and learn from different cultures to make a unique unarmed martial arts style? It would be interesting for them to have a unique style.

Don Dieta

Can't answer too much now about the washqutet people (they are not native to Elamaerys the land) but regarding brandon shipwright...they are not here. You need to think about this. They went west from the north. Where Aegon and Elamaerys are...that's like around mexico and Colombia in terms of latitude. Whereas the North is like iceland. Not the same.

Mosef

Hello Marco, thank your message. I appreciate your concern :) don't worry, if i do end up too stressed, I will let you guys know!

Mosef

Not of Elamaerys but southeast of the WATERS of Elamaerys.

Mosef

Huh so Aegon and his son set a 60 year old ban on exploration to the rest of the island. It's also quite interesting that the post-contact war with the Zekira lasted decades with one side having multiple dragonlords.

Lers

its good

Любомир Могилюк

I hope the relationship between the natives and the settlers is much better and more integrated than what happened in America? Also what happened to Brandon the shipwright and his crew and his people? I thought they would be the earliest settlers? Yet, I believe that maybe, once things settle down, the contact and communication of the natives would happen moreover. Plus, If there’s people around there, there is potential for them to have certain crops that has been cultivated.

Don Dieta

Yes I was starving for this thank you for posting. I would like to remind you that not all people want you stress yourself to post new chapter. I enjoy your stories and want you to write as much as possible but I wan you to enjoy writing. So please have fun writing 😊
