~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Beast Taming: (First and Second Level) - Beast taming will allow William to magically tame animals, making them loyal. Level one allows for coyotes and smaller, while the second level increases that to moderately larger animals. In exchange for loyalty, the animal is given an all-around buff for intelligence, speed, durability, and regeneration. The second level includes rituals to increase that buff, as well as unlock inherent elemental aspects of loyal animals. Level three would include rituals to unlock elemental connection fully, turning a rabbit with a lightning-enhanced dash into a lightning rabbit. At this stage, they would be considered the equivalent a decent cape. Level four would include complicated rituals to turn some animals into more mythological/magical versions. So a sparrow would get turned into a Sparrow with a fire attack, which would then be turned into a Fire sparrow, which could then be turned into a Phoenix. These could be considered as powerful as higher-end capes.
Druidcraft: (First and Second Level) - Allows for control and influence of plant life. At level one its basic plant care and buffs directly affecting the plants. Level two includes more direct control, but requires the plant or seed to exist in the first place. Level three would include creating plants from "nothing" as well as creating plant combinations that don't exist in nature. The fourth level would include things like plant golems with more intelligence, like spriggans or treants.
Human Transfiguration Magic: Spells and rituals that alter the way someone looks within human limits. Spells are temporary and can also be turned off with a deactivation spell, while rituals are permanent until undone with a cleansing ritual. These can improve physique and strength, but not to supernatural levels, just through optimization. Level one is small changes to color and shape, i.e from blond to dirty blond. Level two contains much more drastic changes, from blond to basically any color. It also includes the placement of scars and other features. Level three is the final level and includes full body shifts, even from male to female. These are not illusions. Levels two and three also increase the time that spells last.
Arcane Focus Creation: An arcane focus makes casting and holding spells easier, as well as costing less mana. The first level is basic creation, taking simple materials and combining them with basic rituals to make low-end arcane focuses. The second level is more complicated, with multistage rituals, complicated crafting and more powerful results, with specific benefits (element attunement, even cheaper casting, easier wordless casting.) Third level includes some more esoteric and strange creations, including mixing some clockwork into designs, as well as really pushing what a "focus" might be. This subject only has three levels.
Comments
Avoiding the spotlight is good and all, but having no means to actually blast apart his foes when they come unexpectedly is best, mages thrive on preparation, but he is nowhere near the level where he has enough trump cards capable of saving his ass when those big hitters come for him. Arcane Studies fills the biggest whole of right now which is to better utilize his meager resources for the biggest effect, punch higher and form a deterrent effect with those villains.
Feliprins
I kinda want to see how he tames one of the endbringer as his beast xD
Caiban
Magic focus all the way this is a multiplicative strength/efficience power in the long run. He can play Druid/hashirama senju later. But this is solid base for any foundation
Ikasuki
Magic idea: Apotropaic Magic, the base magic behind warding and protection magic, with his healing spells would allow for Abjuration, with his Enhancement spell would allow for Reinforcement magic, hell, given it's an ancient style it'd slot right into Ritual Crafting; Side note, would be invaluable in the ability to protect against Masters, Thinkers, and a number of the more annoying Shakers Magic idea: As Yunru said, some kind of longer distance or static teleportation would be handy, even just something like a doorway that functions as a one-way teleport for rapid response would be extremely handy Magic idea: Enchanting, Help him make more Magic Items, which I realise isn't really leaning away from his current style, especially given the way the poll is going, but would give him a bit of direction Magic idea: Technomancy, not so much it's crafting, as was already suggested but just the ability to interface, download, and crack the passwords of tech would be interesting, and handy in a modern world
Mr Mouse
So if I'm not misunderstanding would human transfiruation allow him to help with Case 53s? It sounds like aomthing he would totally do.
Hiram
Magic Idea: Aspect or Concept Steal magic (Take an aspect or concept from a person, place, or thing to use in rituals.)
Merrick Cole Longstaff
Beast taming would be a second minion creation type ability (alongside golems) - maybe you want to lean into that, but I worry about how you will avoid one option being objectively better - e.g. why use golems when you can super buff a swarm of rats with each one being equivalent to a cape. Or why use beasts when golems require zero food, water, sleep, or shelter and can be customised for any situation?
Drumic
Are these made wholesale, or taken from a cyoa or something?
Vincent Mason
Magic idea: Static point-to-point teleportation. Like D&D Magic Circle or Stargate ring transporters, various ways to move various amounts from one preprepared location to another.
Yunru
Magic Idea: Runic Artificing (i.e. magitech) as far as the poll goes I went with Arcane Focus. But I also like the beast taming idea alot. If he gets that powerful enough he could tame a fucking Kaiju and give it elemental powers 😆 🤣
Fortunis
Magic idea! Alchemy like what we see in Full Metal Alchemist where they can make gloves and other clothing that hold their alchemy circles and can use them quickly in combat.
strictpig
Magic idea bloodline sorcerer he picks or one is randomly selected a magical creature or being in the more points he put into it more powerful abilities he gets.
