EXCLUSIVE: an undeleted twice-deleted scene from ACTION BUTTON REVIEWS TOKIMEKI MEMORIAL

Hello! If you are reading this within twelve hours of my posting it (Eastern Time), it's Friday! Why not watch a little video on Friday? Well, here's a little video for you to watch. (You can watch it embedded in this post, here, or you can access it with this direct link, from which you should be able to also download it for easier viewing in your chosen media player.)

This video represents an "Undeleted Scene" from "Action Button Reviews Tokimeki Memorial". I'll be perfectly honest with you: I knew I was going to cut this segment before I even finished writing it. Then I wrote it, and then I cut it--deleted it right clean out of the script *minutes* before sitting down in front of the prompter.

Then I edited my whole video, and decided to un-cut it. I recorded it, knowing all the while I was going to just cut it again. And then I did cut it again--knowing that I was going to present it as a Patreon Exclusive.

Look: Patreon is stressful. And I'm not just talking about how the site is user-hostile for simple functions such as "following an email link to my message inbox"--I'm talking about the experience of being a Patreon Person elsewhere upon the internet. I receive a lot of messages on all my platforms, many of them encouraging, most of them puzzling. The encouraging messages are all alike, and the puzzling messages are puzzling in their own ways.

By far the grappliest of puzzles presented daily to me regards "Patreon-Exclusive Content." Many of you encourage me to feel no pressure to produce exclusive content. Many of you, however, send me messages threatening to cancel your pledge unless I give you something, anything, as long as The Freeloading Plebs can't get at it. Many people elsewhere in my social media beg me to never produce exclusive content, because doing so is gatekeeping. And recently: Somebody (probably it was me, loose-lipped during a stream) squealed about the Doom video Vimeo, and I got yelled at--many times!--for gatekeeping it.

The most fun part of this puzzle is: I agree with everybody!

To different degrees, in different ways, from different angles: I can see at least a little bit of literally everybody's point, here.

Heavy lies the crown of "Successful Patreon"!

I devised the only possible wise solution to this puzzle was to present you this particular twice-deleted deleted scene, which before its twice-deletion had been pre-deleted before it could have ever been recorded. I calculated that the only tasteful way to appease all sides of the Exclusive Content Debate was to restore this fragment of the original script and record it prior to exporting the YouTube cut of the video--then mercilessly trim it at the last minute, inserting a wide-open overt advertisement for this Patreon in its place. I made sure that the advertisement for the Patreon leaned heavily on a strong indication that the restored undeleted scene in its original form served only to maximally pad the intermission in a manner that inspired the viewer to take a full-day-long break. I advertised this scene to YouTube viewers as perfectly unnecessary, in an attempt to defuse any arguments from those who'd call me a gatekeeper. I told myself that when two weeks had elapsed, I'd release the segment on Vimeo to Patreon backers, and that is what I am doing today. So please, enjoy a twice-deleted (thrice, technically) scene of purposely frivolous subject matter, written in (I daresay) nice prose, presented in a not-unbizarre manner.

(You will notice it also begins with a tease of ACTION BUTTON REVIEWS TOKIMEKI MEMORIAL: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT. That was the other, larger motive behind this exercise.)

Will there be more videos of this nature on this Patreon at any point in the future? I mean, probably (?) not about Tokimeki Memorial, though maybe about something else! Who knows! We'll find out soon.

In closing: I can't help noticing there are more of you than there were before. That's good! Be sure to check out our Discord! It's free! If you're here, you get a special title. You could also buy a shirt, if you want, and you could definitely also get excited about Action Button Dot Net, which will launch quite loudly any day now.

Well, I gotta keep working on this Cyberpunk 2077 video! I'd stream the game, though I'm afraid I'd spoil my review's "angle." I want to stream pretty much every Season Two game as I play them for review--without spoiling anything too much, let me just say that Season Two is going to involve a lot of streaming, so help me god.

Well, here's the third concluding paragraph: I am actually going now!

You can find this video in the “Get Bonus” playlist on YouTube. You can access the playlist here on Patreon on Tim’s Oct. 28 post “Action Button Bokunatsu Fukubukuro: Complete”. Hope that helped.

Hugh Mungus

I'm in the same boat

Izatt

I, for some reason, don't have persmission to watch the video; the site just keep saying "You are unauthorized for this action". Am I doing something wrong? does anyone else also have this problem?

Marceline (ReverberatedDreams)

I, for one, played Tokimemo (PSX) twice, all the way through (Megumi and Mira. We're very happy, thank you.) using an iPod and the Google Translate app. (I also read a small amount of Japanese, so that helped) Gotta say that it was fun! It's OKAY to like playing the game this way.

I literally became a patron literally for this video.

Alberto Yu

Was the "director's cut" thing a joke, or did you change your mind about it, or is it still happening? *I'd* watch a director's cut of that review.

Mrs. Policewoman

Probably not the list you have in mind, but here's another one. I wrote this down from some video, unfortunately i forgot to note the source, the unreliable librarian that i am. i put "jpop likings" in the title. number girl - sappukei rc succession - EPLP jagatara ‎– sorekara eiichi ohtaki - A LONG VACATION yōko oginome - CD-RIDER kyoko koizumi - betty momoe yamaguchi - 15-sai psy-s - mint-electric RAMU - seizan killer monogatari happy end - kazemachi roman ryuichi sakamoto - thousand knives sadistic mika band - black ship yellow magic orchestra - YMO go home! yukihiro takahashi - i'm not in love susan - complete susan tropical dandy - haruomi hosono philharmony - haruomi hosono starbow V.1 - starbow

Bad news, Tim. Action Button Reviews is 6 syllables.

Can we get a list of your top 11 albums of all time, as mentioned at 39:12 alongside Miho Nakayama's Mind Game? I know a handful by sight, but I'd love an Artist Name/Album Name list.

Tyler Moyer

Mr. Rogers — I will pay to watch you trash any band, any day, any time. That was amazing.

Casey Cannon

Please add 1 vote to your Review Bioshock spreadsheet. Thank you

glue gun gooner

that was 73 seconds but still hilarious

John Munger

Hey Tim, just want you to know I just subscribed to your whatever somehow, making you the 2nd and probably only other thing to get removed from my checking account monthly (after my insurance for my car and house, because having the ability to drive rules). Thanks for the videogames

Patrick Esposito

I was born stupid. However, I will not die hungry. (and thus I do not need exclusive content for my $3)

Landa

Saw you talking about Coke Zero in a Battletoads video. You mentioned that there is some sort of mild antidepressant in Coke Zero. Did you know, they used to put lithium in 7up?

JoshuaF

I looked it up and listened before getting to your warning, and now the phrase "Action Button Method" has been tainted in my mind's ear.

Zee Perry

I can't get enough of pausing and rewinding to read the half second interstitial text popups

Squit

the date upon which your fated bz car journey took place was my fifth birthday. you're welcome

Patreon is such a weird place, everyone has wildly different expectations on what it is and who it’s for. It really depends on the creator to set the expectations. There are quite a few creators whose marketing boils down to “you get to pay to be my friends!”, which I don’t think I’ll ever NOT feel weird about. The thing that keeps me on this platform is this: there are so many creators like yourself that have incredible stories to tell. I can’t tell your story for you, but in a small way Patreon let’s me tell you that I believe in what you’re doing and that your narrative is worth seeing through.

Kaelynn

Some of your patrons can join my Patreon and tell me what to do, because no one ever talks to me on mine LOL what do these bitches want from me

Dawn

I'm here giving you money because I know I'll love what you'll do with it. Bums me out to hear that people are yelling at you to do what *they* want. Besides that, I think the DOOM outtakes video is perfect Patreon content and I'd be happy if all the bonus content was "scraps" from production like that. You clearly put a ton of work into every video, so people pressuring you to produce more exclusive/non-exclusive stuff on top is disheartening.

Trevor King-Yost

well, i’m super excited for this, but i would like to say with all my heart that all these guys telling you how to run your platform can get their own platform if they want to make demands about how a platform is run.

Dan

I’m siked that you did an outtake video again. I recently watched the one you did from your doom video and was hoping you would hook up another!

Playboy X

I like what ya do. Its a wild world out there

Joshua D Welbel

[same-y, alike message of encouragement!!]

John Public

Your takedown of BZ is why I wish we had ended up triggering that Bioshock review, hahah. I love hearing you review stuff you love, but it's equally fun and interesting when you critique something you have more criticism than praise for. :) Not a content request, just praise for your versatility!

zacH

I had a good laugh watching this, thanks for posting it!

Robert Rostant

People almost need something frivolous to be mad about when the world is falling apart, but that doesn’t obligate you to listen. You’re clearly doing amazingly well producing the content that you believe in. I’m having a heck of a good time with the videos and feel like I get way more than my small contribution needs. Thank you!

Liz Uraga

This was great. As many others have said, I don't expect bonus content for backing here, but it is appreciated! If you don't want to gatekeep, maybe consider timed exclusive backer stuff?

Tim Roberts

Thank you for sharing this, as a patron I stake no claim, and am content if this were free or required me to patronize you to get it.

Tyragor

The price of everything and the value of nothing. Success is definitely stressful. For what it's worth here is another encouraging comment. You have over delivered on the promise of 1 hour of edited content a month. Anything extra is great!

Alex Spalding

A+

Level_99

I just want to add a vote to the "no need to make exclusive content" pile.

Erik van Berlekom

I appreciate this

Noisetank01

I'd gladly support you even if there was no exclusive content at all, but your text posts talking about the process when finishing up a video already make me feel like I got my money's worth. Having exclusive deleted scenes is just overkill! (but I love it!)

Gustavo

Prompter Cookies are the insider intel I'm here for.

GSR314

Awesome!!

Nate

You probably won’t read this Tim but I’m grateful for what you’re doing on Patreon. I only support 2 people on Patreon you and another guy. The other guy only has 96 backers, never makes a post, I messaged them and they never respond back. I’m glad to support them but almost feel like I’m being used. The fact that you write exclusive posts and occasionally exclusive content makes me feel like your engaged with me, that your engaged with us. I’d be a supporter either way I just appreciate it. If I was in your position I would solve the puzzle with timed exclusive having something like a Season 1 bonus video on your main channel or creating a garbage second channel where you post the same vids there a month afterwards. Love your content, you do you

Brad Dye

I'm un-deleting this comment to tell you that you're doing a GREAT job, Tim. *DOOM shotgun blast*

Thaine Smith

The stress is not worth the donations. Let these 16 year olds cancel. The 80/20 rule always applies. 80% of complaints come from 20% of the group. In business I just fire those customers. You don't have to do that, but I would.

Chris Cabezas

was that an anna karenina reference

Chris Paul

Thanks Tim. Your content keeps me goin' bud.

Geoff Nori

Thanks for the video! I don't know how you're handling manufacturing and distribution, but is there any chance of a women's/feminine/fitted cut shirt?

Dan Cantu

Thanks Tim! Definitely appreciate any streams you do, I'm halfway through the second megumi stream. Personally I don't care about exclusive content either way, just keep doing what you want to do, that's why I'm a patron!!!

Nathan Grim

Director's cut?!

haha what

Thanks for the Friday Video!

Nich

That was some mf writing right there

Nathan Cabisca

Finally, the freeloading plebs have been owned!
