Gaming Historica | All About: FM Towns Marty エフエムタウンズ | Fujitsu (1993) | PART TWO

The FM-Towns Marty used only CD games and was 32-bit powerful. It had many arcade games that are very good quality. In 1994 they released FM Towns Marty 2 and this was grey and not white. It was Fujitsū try to make the machine cheaper to sell more because it was not do so well against the Super Famicom. It was meant to be a special machine for richer people like the Neo Geo. even the games were cheaper than Neo Geo they were still expensive at that time.

In the end the console is not successful enough for Fujitsū. And the real problem? It was too expensive! To let you understand this, the FM Towns Marty cost $710 USD in 1993. The FM Towns Marty 2 cost US$670.. still very expensive 😵‍💫

Because of this cost the FM Towns Marty is not able to stay alive for long and was finished in 1995 after only 2 years! 😔

End of part two!! ♥️

PLEASE LOOK FORWARD TO PART THREE!

I didn’t seem like they missed a step somewhere. I do still think that maybe it jumped on the bandwagon little late but again I could be wrong on that. It’s really interesting to think in an alternate universe that this machine was a success.

It was really too expensive.. because PC market Was expensive also. But they got this wrong. It was powerful at that time definitely and is shame it can not do more . Some the arcade game are very good on there

It sounds like they were trying to market to something between kind of rich and really rich people. With there being better options out there like the Super Famicom or Neo Geo I could see a lot of people just not wanting to jump on this. If I remember right, the Neo Geo cartridges were ginormous because they could hold an entire arcade cabinets worth so it was literally having an arcade in your home.

But this was 1993!!! 😮

I remember Fujitsu having some nice laptops in the mid 1990’s here in the US, I sold quite a few of them back in the day. I used to be a computer/electronics salesman.
