RX1R III review: I think Sony got the story wrong... (ad-free)
Added 2025-08-04 14:36:57 +0000 UTCThe whole time I was using Sony's latest full-frame, point-and-shoot camera, the $5,100 RX1R III, something felt off. It's small, light, Sony-sharp, and fast, but for that price, there are far too many compromises that all feel very un-Sony.

2025-08-05 14:38:37 +0000 UTCReally interesting angle, good job. I'm intrigued by how small the body is, but even before all the compromises, this category never made sense to me personally... At that price and size of lens, I'd want it to be interchangeable. But that's just me I guess... That you can slip it into a concert due to that fact, despite it having a top shelf sensor with tons of croppability, is a definite plus!

The Hasselblad x NASA montage was perfect, and you're spot on – people pay big bucks for less functionality if there's an amazing story to tell, take the Fujifilm X series craze. Sony cut weird corners but also the world of cameras is becoming a world of stories ABOUT the stories of the cameras, since everything is crazy expensive and everything takes pretty dang good photos.
