MHA: I Chapter 08

I was making my way to class when I came across heroes fighting a villain. I quickly defeated him but noticed I had lost some of my power since transferring my quirk to Izuka. I knew I would, the power from the quirk would eventually leave my system but the injury was clearly speeding up the process. I could retain my power form for about three hours until Izuka’s friend healed me.
That not only removed some of the pain but made me about four percent stronger overall and I could retain my power form for about thirty extra minutes. Now I felt that I lost one percent of that power and I lost about five minutes to my hero form. It meant I only had twenty minutes left today and I decided not to show up for the U.S.J.(Unforeseen Simulation Joint) training.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
It was days later when a large crowd of reporters stood outside UA. I did my best to speak with each other as they had found out that All Might was teaching here and wanted to know more. The other students were bombarded with questions as I kept trying to pull attention to me. I took my public speaking voice as I cleared my throat and began to address the questions which freed the students up to go inside.
“Alright. I’ll answer any questions you have, just keep it orderly. If you try to shout out while I’m answering I’ll just ignore you.” One of the more pretty reporters came rushing up to me and my bodyguards stopped her from getting up in my face. They scare her off enough for her to just ask her question without shoving the mic into my face. “Where is All Might?”
The crowd went wild at the question as they all clamored further with their mics pointed in my direction as I answered them calmly. “My guess is doing hero work. He only teaches us for a single class, and only once a week. Today is the day but it would be a waste of his time as a hero to wait around in class.” The crowd went nuts at my barely intelligent train of thought. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that All Might wasn’t here.
Another report waited for the crowd to quiet down before he asked a question. “That yellow-haired boy. Wasn’t he held hostage by a villain in the past?” I couldn’t help but scrunch my face up at the question. “That yellow-haired boy is Katsuki Bakugo and he’s one of the best students at UA. If the villain didn’t have a quirk that perfectly countered his and he was freely allowed to use his own quirk he would have never been held hostage.”
I followed up. “You’re from Channel 9 news? Ahh, of course you are. You’re channel always chases the most clickbait titles so try this one on. Channel 9 news anchor schooled by UA school student.” The entire crowd moved away from him at his gotcha-style questioning as one of the reporters yelled out ‘BURN!’ before the next person asked a question.
“When is your class and when do you think All Might will show up?” I sigh as I take the neutral route with this person. “I can’t answer when our classes are as that is confidential information, only parents of the students can access that information. Please don’t just wait in front of our school building for All Might to show up because he’s just going to jump over all your heads anyway.”
Another burst of murmurs from the crowd before another person asks a gotcha question. “I recognize you. You’re Ai Okane of the Okane conglomerates. I’ve seen news that you sacrificed a person's life to save another. Is that true?” I clench my teeth as I don’t want my face to show how angry that stupid question made me. My outward appearance had to be impeccable.
“That is an incredibly foolish question that made the Channel 9 question seem like a smart one. I didn’t kill anyone, I exchanged the husband's remaining life force with his permission to save his wife's life. That was why he looked so elderly. I can’t outright kill someone with my contract magic only take their life force and I can use that life force to heal injuries. Both would have died if I didn’t step in and if the wife was conscious I could have cured the both of them at the cost of ten years of their life.”
The crowd went completely silent with what I said as I still felt the need to defend myself. “How many people’s lives do you think my powers saved so far? I’ve cured over a hundred people of terminal cancer along with dozens of other injuries that would have been fatal otherwise. By the end of my career, I’ll have saved thousands of lives that no other healer possibly could have because I’m working with a higher source of power. That idiotic question has ruined my mood. I’m done answering questions. Please move out of the way so I can go to school now.”
The crowd broke apart as I entered and only then did they begin to pick up in loudness again asking questions that no one was going to answer. My mood was ruined but I put on my fake smile as I entered the building to keep up my heroic persona. We were in the middle of eating food when loud sirens began to blare as a voice came over the speakers alerting us to a break-in.
As the crowd began to panic my patience was done for the day and I yelled out. “QUIET!” The people who began to panic stopped and all looked in my direction as I explained. “There was a large crowd of reporters outside. I highly doubt a villain would outright attack the school so it’s most likely a break-in from them. Even if it was a villain, WE’RE HEROES IN TRAINING, ACT LIKE IT! Form an orderly line and listen to your student president until other heroes or teachers show up to lead us.”
The crowd calmed down as we made orderly lines to leave. After speaking with a teacher it was in fact the reporters who broke in. At least that’s what they told the students. After that, we were led towards the USJ building to train our rescue skills. I could hear the girls whispering about me from in front as even in my human form my senses were stronger than a normal person's.
“Ai is scary ribbit.” Tsuyu was the first to talk. “I don’t think so. I think he’s just manly taking charge like that.” Mina answered. “He’s always been the one to take charge. It makes me feel inadequate as a hero with him around.” Izuka mentioned. “Ya… I also feel less heroic with him around. He has the same aura as All Might. Like you know things will be okay if he’s around.” Toru answered.
“I know what you mean. I felt so safe in his hands when he carried me up into the air.” Ochaco patted herself on the face as she realized what she said. “Oh, I’m sorry Momo. I know he’s your boyfriend.” Momo cut her off. “He’s not my boyfriend, he’s my future husband. He’s more than welcome to date around before we get married for the sake of our family's companies.” Kyoko chimed in. “Who would date a guy knowing he’s going to get married to someone else in the future though?” There was a brief pause before Toru and Izuka both spoke up at the same time. “I mean…” “If it’s with him.”
The girls went quiet for the rest of our trip there as all of them were thinking of the future.
