Yeah, here she is.
“How are you feeling, sir?” Valkyrie asks.
“How’d you get my number?” I ask.
“I am afraid that such information is above you,” she says with a sly wink.
Damn it. Zane told her.
Why the fuck is Zane telling my students what my number is?
I swear I’m punching him the next time we’re drinking.
I wish I could punch him without having to get drunk first.
“Here,” she says, lifting the bags up. “Everything required for sundaes.”
At least she called me at a convenient time.
“Thanks,” I say, reaching out to take the bags from her.
Only, she pulls away and shakes her head like some sort of annoying brat.
“You may be my commanding officer during training, but right now, you are an injured warrior needing taken care of. You named me Valkyrie, didn’t you? If I recall correctly, that means it is my duty to tend to injured warriors.”
“I don’t remember what it means, smartass.”
“Then why did you name me it?”
“Because you have blonde hair, are a woman, and you want to go on the battlefield.”
“I-is that all?” she asks, sounding disappointed.
I’m not going to tell her I named her that because she’s smart, confident, and has big tits. “Yeah. You disappointed?” I ask her.
She shakes her head and says, “Only surprised. I was even setting you up to correct me on what the duty of a valkyrie.”
“Why the fuck would you do that?”
“I thought my instructor would enjoy instructing – maybe enough to help him feel better.”
“You think I want to hurt when I’m at home?”
“N-now that you put it that way,” she sighs before perking up. “Anyways, this ice cream is going to melt if you don’t invite me in soon.”
“Do you really expect me to invite some younger girl in while my wife is out? You know I’m going to find myself at the bottom of the ocean if she comes home while you’re here, right?” I ask, opening the door more and stepping aside.
“Don’t worry, sir. I haven’t chosen you to die yet.”
“Hah? Since when do you get to choose if I live or die?”
“Since you named me this.”
“Smartass. Just put the bags down in the kitchen and get back to enjoying your time off. I’m already planning on how to kill each and every one of you via training.”
“Then I suppose I will need to enjoy the time to the fullest of my capabilities. Before you kill me, that is,” Valkyrie explains, putting away the groceries on her own.
“Women who force their help onto others piss me off the most,” I groan at her.
“Do we anger you even more than your wife does?”
I tilt my head to think about it.
Yeah, no. It’s impossible for any other woman to piss me off as much as my wife does.
“Also, I must apologize. They didn’t let me buy your liquor even after using your name. They did, however, ask me if you were finally cheating with a new girl,” she explains.
One, damn it, what good is some girl doing me favors if she’s not even old enough to grab me some alcohol? Two, damn it, those bastards at the store need to keep their mouths shut.
“The shelves were almost emptied out anyways,” she adds on.
“No shit. You think everybody is sitting around sober after what happened?” I ask.
Valkyrie stops what she’s doing and looks down.
Shit. I hit a nerve.
“It’s frustrating,” Valkyrie says, putting the ice cream away and closing the freezer. “So many got hurt. Even Shitger,” I don’t think any of us know his real name at this point, “got hurt. He rushed forward and defended us while… while the rest of us were horrified. Meanwhile, you gave it your all defending us for as long as possible while all we could do was stand around and wait.”
“Shit happens, Valkyrie. People live and people die. That’s how this world is. There’s not much more to it than that. Cut the dramatic bullshit and stop annoying me with this when I’m supposed to be recovering,” I tell her.
“Even now, after you got hurt, you’re just acting like your usual self while I’m—”
“Being an annoying piece of shit. Is that what you were going to say? Because, if it was, I completely agree with you.”
Valkyrie smiles and picks up the sprinkles to put away. “I suppose I am being an annoying piece of shit instead of the valkyrie that you want me to be.”
“You’re looking way too fucking deep into that shitty nickname.”
“I like it, and I wish to live up to it. Our enemies will be the ones who I choose to die, and our allies will be the ones I choose to survive.”
“Would you cut it out with that? I’m one annoyance away from renaming you to ‘Annoyance.’ No, that’s too long. I’ll start calling you ‘Put The Fucking Sprinkles Away And Get Out Of My House.’”
“Isn’t that one much longer?”
“Did I ask you for your opinion, Put The Fucking Sprinkles Away And Get Out Of My House?”
The annoying shit giggles and finally puts the sprinkles away in one of the kitchen cabinets.
“Sir… you aren’t going to really call me that, are you?” she asks.
“No fucking shit I’m not going to. You think I want to spew out that nonsensical slurry of shit every time I want to address you, Valkyrie?” I ask.
“Thank you, sir. Really.”
“I’m not doing it for your sake. I’m doing it for mine.”
“I don’t mean the nickname, but I am thankful you won’t continue calling me that.”
“Then the fuck are you thanking me for?”
“For being my instructor. I know you don’t want to do any instructing from home, so I apologize for giving you a reason to.”
“Listen, when I ask you what the fuck are you thanking me for, you’re supposed to actually give me an answer instead of whatever that just was.”
She smiles and looks into my eyes before saying, “See? I just made you instruct me on how to properly explain myself. Sorry.”
“I’m your sparring partner the next time we’re training, and whether my leg is better by then or not, I’m kicking your ass.”
“I will look forward to it, sir.”
These fucking brats piss me off – all of them.
I was damn terrified of my old instructor and would never talk to her like how any of these shits talk to me, especially how Shitger and Valkyrie talk to me.
I’m apparently doing something wrong if they feel like they can be this annoying around me.
“As an apology, would you like me to clean for you? No offense, sir, but your house looks messier than the base does at the moment and it’s kind of had half of it turned into rubble,” Valkyrie offers.
Looking around, she’s not wrong.
I hate cleaning but usually do it since I want to keep the floors clear for Naomi, but I haven’t done much since getting hurt. Kate sure as fuck isn’t going to clean. Mom “cleans” but doesn’t actually accomplish anything. So… yeah, this place is a damn mess.
“Go for it,” I say with a sigh.
Her response is much happier than mine. Rather than sigh, she smiles and says, “Sir, yes sir.”
