I am a trans person and I hate Rowling with a passion but all this arguing over a fucking game is just wasting time and distracting from all the important fights we should be having for trans rights. No matter what trans people did this game was going to be a huge success so she would use it as a sign people agree with her anyways and Rowling is already a billionaire, the money she gets from this game means nothing to her. All this is is a giant fucking purity test and I’m so damn sick of it. If you want to boycott it, great I support you 100% but stop calling people who don’t want to transphobic, it’s a fucking game and all you’re doing is pushing moderates away. I also agree that it should be taken and made into a trans positive thing, play it for trans charities, like I said there’s nothing that will make a financial impact on Rowling but taking her ip and making people associate it with trans rights will very much piss her off at the very least. And no, I’m not saying you have to, I support everyone’s right to boycotting her. I’m not going to speak on the antisemitism, I’m not Jewish and I’ve seen plenty of Jewish people agree that it’s antisemitic but I’ve also seen just as many say it’s not. Sorry for the mess, I’m really bad at formulating my thoughts into words but this entire situation has just been so tiring and disappointing to me.

2023-03-16 15:41:45 +0000 UTCI care much more about the communities that game and the IP that spawned it have been -actively- harming than I do about the devs involved, even if they WERE going to receive royalties (which they won't). The devs were willing, like Noah pointed out, to throw trans and Jewish folks right under the bus in the making of this game so I literally give less than a bee's dick of a fuck what happens to their paychecks in light of the fact that there are trans and Jewish folks out there suffering much more than a few slim checks. PS: JKR has said things to the tune of "if you're still a fan, you support me and my opinions." I don't know about anyone else but rather than argue that we can take back a fandom, I'd rather drop it than give my implicit approval to the vile nastiness the IP creator spreads.

You know what big publishers do when their game rakes in record profits? They give the CEOs a raise and then lay off hundreds of people. It happened again and again. The only people getting anything from more sales of HL are the ones at the top, JKR, and people who negotiated the deal with her in the first place. You can fuck all those people. Weinsteins's key grip is earning minimal wage anyway.

It also made me realize I have no excuse to not be a scathing patron lol, I was only citation needed before but this is the podcast that has really carried me thru for years now. ❤️
