WHYYYYY do oppressed people continue to serve their oppressors?!? I get that the primary point is religious institutions should not (exist) have discriminatory exemptions that are codified by statute. I am also quite aware that victim-blaming is never cool, and it’s truly not my intent. But come on! I’m a very liberal American woman. I’m a humanist. I’m a human rights advocate, a civil rights advocate, a feminist, a social justice warrior, an LGBTQIA+ ally, a BLM ally, and such an extremely progressive American that AOC may not lean to the same degree as I do. However, if I were to autonomously choose to relocate to Saudi Arabia, and then continue to dress and behave exactly as I do in the United States, would I have any logical cause for surprise and indignation when I then, inevitably, certainly, and horrifically, would be subsequently treated (stoned, maimed, killed, etc.) by the people and government of Saudi Arabia?!? I just cannot fathom why in the hell so many marginalized persons directly, knowingly, and intentionally subject themselves to situations, circumstances, institutions, groups, venues, etc., which purposely, intentionally, and litigiously support, facilitate, exacerbate, prioritize, and perpetuate the horrific oppressive abuses against said marginalized (seemingly masochistic) persons!!! It’s not right. It’s not fair. It’s not dignified. But it’s also irrefutable that life isn’t fair and this world is grossly imperfect. Those facts will never change; only the specific cultural and social inequities, injustices, and imperfections will continue to change. All I’m saying is … One should be mindful not to slather their naked body with honey, then commence to exploring caves, known to be inhabited by bears, in the summertime.

I am now doggedly determined to fervently seek any and every opportunity to appropriately slide this precious quip into relevant conversation, no matter how slight such an opportunity, nor how indirectly involved (or absolutely uninvolved!) in such a conversation that I may actually be! 💯 Solid gold!
