Interest in Darker Game Mechanics

I've been considering incorporating darker game mechanics into my projects, and I'd like to gauge player interest. These would not be standalone elements existing in a void, rather they would be counterbalances to kinder & gentler choices, so as to expand upon the options available and allow more diversity in play.
These might include enslavement of characters, enforcing obedience through fear, corporal punishment, etc. So, what do you all think?

I'll keep those suggestions in mind, Superfreq. And you're right, content restrictions are particularly dicey right now. So, I'll do my best to keep my head out of the noose. (Though with the number of things many people consider "too appalling to be seen or read", that might be a challenge. ) ;)

2025-08-15 22:50:52 +0000 UTCI think what I would add to my yes vote is that when it can be done in a way that doesn't ruin the story, content toggles should always be available if you're going to add stuff like this, and people should always be warned up front. Also, having this type of content (and especially advertising it openly) will paint a bigger target on your back as a creator. I don't want to be alarmist (this whole sex game deplatforming thing could eventually blow over in many different ways) but it isn't a stretch to imagine that Patreon/Subscribe Star might be the next logical step after Itch and Steam, especially when Patreon has already narrowed the scope of what is allowed in the past. Standing out with certain keywords may not be the best idea right now, even if I personally enjoy some of that type of thing allot.
