An Argument Against Motion Inputs

Here is a thumbnail for a most likely controversial video I am working on.

I saw a week ago some discourse about motion inputs in fighting games, strongly apposing their removal. Since Work Strike has directional inputs and avoided motion inputs entirely, I thought it'd be interesting to give my reasoning behind that decision. I don't believe they should be removed from all fighting games, but I do believe they are a nasty hump for new players that makes the genre unappealing to get into.

But my perspective will be much more fleshed out once in video form.

An Argument Against Motion Inputs

Comments

:3 no joke, an indie fighter i follow convinced me fully that motion inputs are old hat. ^u^ that game is Duels of Fortune, and most of the characters have VERY simple inputs which are endlessly fun to play with. the game's Shotokan character, who's literally named Shoto Kanji, has all the moves you'd expect from a Ryu clone, but with simplified inputs you can do some insane tricks. down b to upward punch, left b to spinny kick, no delay whatsoever. you can just launch your opponent with a punch, then flurry of kicks while both of you are airborne. X3 endlessly satisfying. :3 and for the folks who like nuance, there's also a grappler who DOES use motion inputs for stronger grabs, and a charge character. :P no online play sadly, but hey, its free on Steam and still getting updates. ^u^ and honestly? its gameplay completely changed how i feel about fighting games. if i ever make one, simple inputs all the way baybeeeeeeeee

They need to be more obtuse. Motion control inputs now!
