Naughty Magic - Chapter 21 - Back to School

Olivia

In the end, Rachel’s aunt’s girlfriend was able to help out… if not quite in the way we’d hoped for. She refused to edit my name in the registry, but instead just sort of… noted down that I had a preferred name for my teachers? She also helped me pick out some trans friendly professors who wouldn’t mind how I’d ‘transformed’ over the summer.

Of course, we implied the transformation involved hormones and surgeries over actual magic, and there was still the small fact that my transformation hadn’t exactly been ‘over the summer’ - but so long as I stuck to my preferred name of ‘Olivia’... Well, between that, me switching classes, and the fact that I didn’t exactly have a ton of friends outside of Clarissa, it was pretty unlikely anyone would make the connection between me and ‘Max,’ same last name or no.

The downside of all that was that I was going to have to attend all new classes, and make up several days worth of homework for each of them… it was going to be troublesome fitting that into my schedule, what with all the recently released magical girl content I still wanted to consume, and… well, the fact that I sometimes needed to escape those magical girls… but I’d make it work.

That’s what I told myself as I rolled out of bed, at least. Though the positive outlook did fade a bit when I heard someone banging around in the kitchen.

“Clarissa?” I called out. “Is that you?” I kinda hoped not. I mean, yes, the alternative would be that a stranger had broken into my home, but honestly that might be preferable to being fed what Clarissa thought counted as cooking…

“Yeah!” Clarissa called out, much to my horror. “I’m frying donuts!”

“Do we… I mean do I even have the equipment for doing that?” I asked, exasperated.

“Who knows? I’m not that far into the tutorial video so far.”

“That’s… How far are you?” I asked, already dreading her answer.

“Most of the way through making the dough! I think. And don’t worry! I’ll clean up right after!”

You could always just set your slime to eat up the mess, Chrys chimed in.

“...Good to know, I guess,” I muttered back, taking a few hurried steps towards the kitchen. “You haven’t burned anything important yet, have you?”

“Come on, dude, give me a little credit!” Clarissa complained, glaring at me before turning her attention back to… whatever the hell she was doing. It mostly just looked like punching the dough. “How could I have burned anything when I haven’t even touched the stove yet, anyway?”

“You say that, but I’m pretty sure if anyone could manage it would be you,” I countered, thinking back to the past disasters. “I still don’t know how you managed to ruin mashed potatoes…”

“Well, I thought I could just follow the instructions for instant mashed potatoes, and just sorta… non-instant it? Or something? And it wasn’t like it was totally ruined!”

“You turned those potatoes into charcoal!” I complained. “Look, whatever, I’m just… going to pick up breakfast on the way to school, alright? You help yourself to whatever the hell it is you manage to whip up.”

“You sure?” Clarisssa asked.

“Yeah. I’m pretty sure you and I still have vastly different ideas of what constitutes breakfast, anyhow, remember?”

“No, I mean, are you sure you wanna go by yourself? This is sort of your first day at school, you know. Or at least ‘Olivia’s.”

“It’ll be fine,” I replied, rolling my eyes. “It’s just school, and your classes don’t even start for an hour after mine, anyway.”

“Fair enough,” Clarissa agreed, shrugging before turning her full attention back to the dough.

For my part, I made my way out the door in a hurry, with the vague hope that the place would still be standing when I got back.

As much as I hated to admit it, Clarissa might have been onto something. Not with the donuts - definitely not the donuts - but with the whole school being scary thing… Which was frankly ridiculous. I mean, I was twenty! I was in college! I had literal superpowers! Why should I be scared of walking into a new classroom? As a girl… for the first time in my life…

“Feeling nervous?”

“A little,” I confessed, chuckling to myself. Then I paused, turning toward the speaker. “Rachel!?”

“Surprise? I swapped my early morning class to match yours. Nobody needs calculus at 8 AM, anyways.”

“Are you sure?” I asked, a little concerned. “You don’t need it for your major or anything, do you?”

“Well… maybe a little,” she confessed. “But it’s fine. I’ll just take it next year. For now, I figured I’d support my new friend on her first day.”

“...Thanks,” I muttered, a little embarrassed. A little pleased, too, though, if I was being honest. “I mean, I know it’s stupid, to be scared, but…”

“It’s not stupid,” Rachel assured me. “It’s normal. I mean, in a very real way, this is the first time you’re unveiling Olivia to the world, right?”

“I mean, I did go to that club,” I pointed out. “But this is… different.” For one thing, I was in my thicker, comfier form this time - with just a little bit of pudge and some very thicc thighs. It felt more like… me. In a way I couldn’t explain.

Which would normally be great, if my fears weren’t entirely centered around the real “me” being displayed.

“I never used to care what people thought of me,” I grumbled. “I could just blend into the background as… Well, you know…”

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure you’re going to turn a few heads,” Rachel replied. “But it’s not like everyone is going to be staring at you, you know. It’s a big class.”

“I guess…” I offered her a shaky smile. “We should probably head inside, huh? Wouldn’t want to be late to ‘Olivia’s’ first class.”

Rachel smiled back, and reached for the doorknob. I half expected something to go disastrously wrong before she could open the door, but… nothing did.

Nothing went wrong in class, either. Outside of my dismal performance when asked a question, anyways - I was admittedly a little too nervous to pay attention, up to that point. After getting through that bit with no more than a disappointed sigh from the professor, though, I actually started to relax a little.

Nothing was going wrong. Nothing was going to go wrong. I was going to take my class as Olivia, in a body so different from my old one that nobody was ever going to make the connection, and I was going to get a degree in… Well, the wrong name, but I could probably handle that through legal matters? Somehow?

Regardless, it seemed like my normal school life was back on track. Other than the fact that I’d be attending it as a girl, I didn’t see why much had to change, either. Sure, I now had a bunch of world-shaking revelations rattling around in my head about the true nature of magical girls and ooze, but… did I really need to do anything about it? It wasn’t like I had an actual responsibility to anyone or anything. Just a bunch of powers I never asked for and some magical girls breathing down my neck.

Could they even find me if I didn’t use my powers, though? What if I just… stayed like I currently was? Forever?

Newsflash - staying like this is using your magic. You’re supposed to be purple, remember?

‘...Okay, yeah, but it’s not like the magical girls can sense it if it’s just this, right?’ I shot back.

…Probably not, Chrys admitted. Not without direct contact with you, at least. But there’s still a chance! Plus, what are you going to do about all the excess accumulated energy?”

‘...Excess what?’ I shot back.

The excess magic you’re absorbing! You know, from rocking a totally hot bod? I don’t know why or how, but you’re absorbing a lot more than you’re spending. If I didn’t know better, I’d think that there was someone lusting after your true form in the room with us…

“Like hell!” I called out. Aloud. The look the professor gave me had my cheeks burning red. ‘I mean, like hell. How would that happen?’

I don’t know, but if it keeps up you’re going to eventually build up enough energy for the girls to notice you, disguise or no.

‘So what? I have to use magic? Are you trying to tell me to go out there and summon a bunch of magical girls to fight me?’

Haven’t we been over this enough times by now? The best way to keep your secret identity secret is to keep giving them a public figure to look at.

‘Yeah, but… for how long?’

I don’t know… until you find a way to free all the magical girls from their crystals and appease this world’s magic, I guess?

‘And how am I supposed to do that?’

Hell if I know! Maybe if you keep fighting something will turn up.

…I was going to need to talk to Clarissa and Rachel about this, wasn’t I?

White Heart

***

“Everyone knows the plan?” I asked, regarding the other girls around me. Red, with an uncharacteristically determined look on her face. Violet, with a scowl on her lips. Me, standing cool and composed, ever at the ready to take command.

“I’m not dumb,” Violet grumbled, crossing her arms. “And it’s not like the plan’s complicated.”

“Now, now, White just wants to make sure we’re all on the same page,” Red chimed in. “Though it is a rather simple plan…”

“Just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it can’t be screwed up,” I pointed out, narrowing my eyes at the two of them. “So I’ll repeat the plan anyways. We’re each going to our assigned places at the college - north entrance for me, west for Red, East for Violet. Then we move in, alert to any signs of the Violet Queen. At the first sign of her, you’re to send a signal so that all of us can group up and fight her at once. Alright?”

“Like I said, I’m not dumb,” Violet all but growled at me.

“I’ve got it,” Red promised, giving me a warm smile. A little too warm, somehow. Made me feel like I’d stepped too close to a live flame, almost - but that was ridiculous. Red was the most level headed person on the team, after me. Even if she did go renegade to take on the Violet Queen, against all reason…

“Everyone get to your positions, then,” I said, deciding not to dwell on it. “If the Violet Queen really is hiding out on campus, anywhere, then we’ll know by the end of the day.”

“And if she isn’t?” Violet demanded.

“Then we’ll broaden our search. Maybe look for clues at the park you fought her in, or the club where she appeared. But we don’t exactly have a lot of leads, and we’ve got to start somewhere.”

“And you really think she’s going to be in some boring ass college?” Violet pressed. “Not out trying to conquer the world, or doom us all?”

“I don’t know what she’s up to, here or otherwise,” I replied, doing my best to keep cool. “We have no idea as to her motives, her personal desires, why she brought the ooze to our world, or if she’s even the one who did.”

“I mean, she’s called the Violet Queen,” Violet pointed out. “I don’t think she’s taking orders from someone else. Unless there’s… what? Some sorta Violet Empress?”

“I hope not,” Red murmured. “Fighting the Queen is dreadful enough….”

“I don’t know,” I answered, plainly. “But the sooner we capture her, the sooner we can find out.”

“Are you sure we should be handling this on our own?” Red asked, sounding worried. “I know we’re magical girls, but… a sentient leader of the ooze is huge. Maybe if we brought in other magical girls…?”

“Other magical girls are gonna find out about this eventually, whether we tell them or not,” Violet said. “But this girl appeared on our turf, so I say we show all of them who’s boss and capture her first.”

“I’d like to at least make one attempt as a team before we consider bringing in outside forces,” I confirmed, actually agreeing with Violet for once. From the disgusted look she was giving me, it didn’t sit well with her either. “Now come on - we need to get to our positions before she catches wind of our arrival and escapes.”

The girls nodded - begrudgingly in Violet’s case, but I could tell that she was eager to get going herself. She just didn’t want to seem like she was following my orders.

Well tough shit.

“Remember, girls - with our hearts as one, we’re unbeatable! Don’t let her split us up again!”

This one gave me a bit of trouble... Had writer's block for the longest time on it. I reread the previous chapters, though, considered what I wanted to happen, and... well, in the end what we're left with is mostly a transitional piece, but sometimes that's how it works out. I hope you'll look forward to what I've got planned for chapter 22, though!
