(btw i an anime only) Lishu situation is very unique and got completely out of hand before anyone could do something about that. To recapitulate a bit her family raised in power and influence very recently and gave her for the former empheror to solidify their place and his favor. but that was around when the late emperor had already shut himself in his last year of life. so when the new emperor got the throne he had to accept LIshu again in the rear palace for political reasons; so she is in this weird limbo as a unwanted daughter for the clã ,can't be married off because would be insult to the previous emperor and then had to become a unwated comcubine as not only the current has no such inclinations and wold aso be a problem if she eded up becoming mother to a serious contender for the throne. another thing that you guys appear to be missing is a proper timeline for certain things, the current emperor ascended the trone around 5 years ago, and he only ha Ha-duo as concubine/consort before that. all concubines/consorts with exception of Lishu arived the rear palace in the last 5 years

2025-07-07 09:34:17 +0000 UTCThe Consorts ladies are picked by their families. That’s how Gyokuyou gets all her girls from her hometown and Lihua has her cousin and the ladies she picked out. Jinshi cannot change Lishu ladies because it’s not in his jurisdiction. Lishu can ask her family to change it but she might not want to and even if she did that still might not do it, seeing how they already treated her. It’s like how Jinshi couldnt just change all of Gyokuyou ladies just cause.

2025-07-03 00:00:38 +0000 UTCI wonder if the emperor views lady lishu as a daughter since he's known her since she entered the palace when she was 9, similiar to how lishu and ah-duo developed a mother-daughter co-dependancy and ah-duo was the emperor's (crown prince back then) only concubine back then. I hope that made sense, I wasn't sure how to explain it, but it sorta feels that way to me. I'd love to see some interactions between lishu and the emperor, similar to how we saw scenes of her with ah-duo.

2025-07-02 21:24:45 +0000 UTCIf I remember correctly, this wasn't stated outright in the anime, but it was definitely mentioned in the light novel: unlike regular maids, the ladies-at-waiting for concubines are provided by the concubines’ own families and are often members of minor noble families themselves. That's why the inner palace administration needs a very serious reason to interfere in their affairs, without direct consent from concubine family. Thank you for reaction!
