Man that 1999 opening brings back memories…..I watched it in 2009 when I was 14 so the 2011 version didn’t even exist yet.

2026-02-25 12:17:22 +0000 UTCI know it's not gonna happen, but since you already finished the 2011 version, I think it would be cool to watch the 99 version at some point. If not complete, at least the episodes: 38 (the first time they get to the 200th floor); 42 (Gon't fight against Hisoka); 43 (Killua threatening Sadaso); 56 (Kurapika against Uvo); 62 (Last episode, Chrollo vs Zeno and Silva, Kurapika carrying the Scarlet Eyes, Final scene). OVA episodes: 4 (66 if they are listed together, anyways, Squalla's interrogation and demise); 8 (Pakunoda's demise). Aside from Gon and Hisoka's fight, all the other scenes are just to exemplify the difference in tone. Again, won't happen, but would be nice.

2025-07-14 05:21:13 +0000 UTCI think people did you a disservice by asking you to watch the old animated series, because many scenes in that old version are actually full of narrative liberties that weren't present in the original work. They should have asked you to read the first chapter from the manga on your own instead. And please 99v fans, don't insert yourselves under my comment to start a flame war over which version is "better". I grew up reading the original manga and that's all that ever mattered to me.

Don't watch the 99's Greed Island arc. The reason is because its production value already dropped. Episodes 1 to 62 (covering up to the end of Yorknew arc) had great quality and aired from 1999-2001. The Greed Island arc, however, aired in 2004 and has a noticeable drop in art and animation quality.
