Re:Zero Episode 9

Comments

the love for your comments is definitely overwhelmingly positive. 100% not something to worry about. loved your comments during the AOT reactions, and loving the comments you're making in the re:zero reactions too. if somehow someway a person gets negative, take it as exposure therapy lol

The Egg Unhatching

Hi, i dont watch anime but I was scrolling down the homepage and stumbled on this comment as its well liked. But Just wanted to say that I also used to have anxiety over being liked by everyone and wanting not to be seen as annoying to anyone, but honestly over time as you get older (im an older person) you start to realise the constant worry was over nothing. I do agree with the last person too, people who have a critique or a difference of opinion are more likely to be more vocal than someone who just agrees . But judging by the amount of likes you get, seems you have a lot more people who like your comments than dislike it so always focus on the positives and never let the negatives get you down. If one person has a critical response to a post of yours doesnt mean everyone is thinking like that, so dont let it get to you. But take care and hope all goes well.

Aside from the time travel element exploring similar themes of fate and overcoming it to save the people you love and an eccentric male protagonist that can be either annoying or charming for you.. they're kinda completely seperate shows. Steins Gate's protagonist is an 18 year old chuunibiyou if that helps 😂 Anyway.. unlike Re:Zero where Return by Death is a narrative tool to explore different sides of its characters by placing them in different scenarios.. Steins Gate is ABOUT the time travel with a psuedo-science approach to it. Its a visual novel adaptation so its naturally a slow burner with heavy focus on slice of life character interactions but as the plot slowly thickens its becomes more of a thriller and an emotional rollercoaster. Set in a much more grounded and mundane world extremely similar to our own with the backdrop being the Tokyo city of Akihabara.. its very heavy on its otaku references and is generally all around pretty much a love letter to otaku culture. Science, time travel, otaku culture.. what can go wrong?

Thank you, I really appreciate you saying that. 🥹 I was worried that I was going to get told off that I should expect negative responses everywhere or something, and came to delete my post, but you made me feel a bit better about. I definitely agree about the cattiness. Maybe it's showing my age, but for whatever reason, the anime community has become extremely volatile since my "age of anime" I guess we could call it lol but everything that me and the people I know loved about anime has become contention points, right down to my cousin being called a pedo for liking Killua as a character. Smh.. So I honestly stopped interacting with anime for so long until I found Wes and Steph. Watching anime with them and all the positivity in the comments, I picked up my little hobby of writing my long ass comments here, just enjoying talking about whatever came to mind and seeing who responded and what with. I hope someday when I'm in a happier place and stronger, I can come back to the anime section, as they have the funnest topics that come up. :3 ❤️‍🩹 Have a good one Also I like book report comments too 😂 so no worries.

Chels

Hey Chels, I just read through the context pertaining to this post and for what it’s worth, I thought your posts came from a place of genuine passion and excitement for the show and I didn’t think what you wrote was a spoiler at all. People theory craft this show all the time and the hypothesis you cooked up was common since season 1 was airing. I didn’t read past arc 5 in the novel so I didn’t think it was a spoiler until someone else hinted that it might be one. And even if I did think it might have been a spoiler, I do think people could have been more courteous in how they responded to you considering you had nothing but good intentions. Unfortunately, you cannot control how other people perceive your post, especially if you’re going completely off the cuff. Anime fans in particular can be a bit catty and insensitive so I completely understand if you don’t feel like this space is safe for you to post anymore. We are often told words shouldn’t hurt, but they more than often do and there is nothing wrong with removing yourself from an environment where you feel negative emotions frequently. I’m sure there is a sizable number of people who enjoy reading your posts and appreciate the good vibes (like me) but they are just not as vocal as the individuals who spread negativity. Also, there is nothing wrong with how you write. I think it adds character and creates a positive atmosphere. It’s so much better than writing everything like a book report like I do. I hope everything goes well for you and I’m sorry you had the experience that you had.

(Personal goodbye to anime comments. Don't read if not interested. But also a low-key mental health topic about how to treat people in the comments) Hey ya'll, Wes, Steph and the people who frequently get into fun convos with me in the comments, I didn't know how to do this privately, but I think I'm going to stop commenting on the anime videos, so you won't see me here anymore. Honestly, I suffer from disabilities that are debilitating and affect how I socialize, including crippling social phobia where I'm so terrified of being rejected as a human being and a nuisance to people, that even online, over the phone, ect. I panic when I talk to people. My therapist and I worked out a deal that I would choose environments I feel safer with, and just comment as much as I can and if someone responds, I make the effort to have a conversation with them (or talk to people I'm partied up with in my game). This was working here, and I love many of the conversations I got into with Steph and other people who I wish I could message and befriend. Even some that were debates with opposing views, those were really fun and respectful conversations. However, lately I've been getting a lot of confrontation for the way I talk. Despite the fact I do my best to avoid spoilers, or extremely vague if there's something I want to say that skirts a spoiler, and I try to be respectful of opposing views and stances and only come from a place of my thoughts, feelings, and experiences.. Some people just tell me I talk too much about stuff that you can just Google, or that I shouldn't talk about what I was excited to reply on (to Wes and Steph) because it skirts a spoiler and I had to he too vague. That nobody wants to read about my personal experiences when I am relating to the show or something Someone says.. I wish I could be the type that can say "these are faceless nobodies you'll never meet" and not let them get to me or affect how I feel, but they do. I feel like I'm committing a crime now everytime my comment ends up too long and I'm starting to have anxiety attacks when about to hit "send" again. I just don't feel safe commenting in the anime posts anymore, so as sad as that makes me, because there are a LOT of good people in here and I loved my conversations with you, I'm going strictly to the BTS/kdrama comments. So goodbye to the ones who I frequently talk with. I hope to see you guys in the other videos. Wish Patreon had an add friend feature but I can't find one.. or DMs. Enjoy the animes. I'll still be watching the shows and lurking around the comments lol Sorry this probably just looks annoying to anyone who doesn't care. 😅 If you've read this far, thank you. I just want to end this with a little message.. We don't know who we're talking to. We don't know their stories, their mental states, or their BG. Something benign to you, might be extremely damaging to them, or said on the worst possible day for them to get that message. Not everyone is in a place to brush off negative comments. The person you are deciding to criticize, even lightly, could be on the razor's edge of a dark precipice and just need some kindness. On the flip side, it costs nothing to either not comment and move on, or to offer an olive branch and be gentle with your disagreements. It even just takes a moment to say something kind to someone which could make a huge difference in how they feel about what you're telling them, or it might even be something that lightens their day and pulls them back from the edge a bit. That's all I really want to say on this matter. Please always remember that your words always have the potential to save someone or hurt them, so we should all work to be mindful of that and treat each other with respect. (´ノω;`)❤️‍🩹

Chels

I've always wanted to see that one, but haven't gotten around to it. Is it similar vibes to Re:Zero?

Chels

Well hey now.. I think that's going a bit far to say I shouldn't comment on the masterful writing just because I had to be vague about a small corner of it that ties the neat bow on my point (when people who know, know, and it leaves the others guessing). What I said was relevant to what they were saying about the fact we kinda low-key root for Subaru to die to easy fix situations. I'm still new to the show myself though I watched ahead after they got to the 4th ep, so there's still a lot I'm learning, speculating, questioning ect. and was very excited when they made me realize that I think making us wish for the death of someone even as we watch them be tortured by it since it's an easy fix, is AMAZING writing. But you misunderstood the tone of my comment, so I just hoped to clarify my thoughts for you while still keeping it vague enough that those who don't know will only come up with many theories, and not outright get told stuff, but I admit I had to dance closer to the fire than I would've liked to to make it so you understood that I thought it was clever writing and why, and now I feel I shouldn't have bothered responding at all because it led to you giving me a spoiler along with anyone who reads these.. 😅 I genuinely don't know anything about the cult or Subaru's place in this world, so I just excitedly spitballing and theorizing the same as Wes and Steph, and while CJ was clever about their comment so there's no yes or no, to where I was like "Wait.. am I right? No, they wouldn't tell me so obviously, they have to be messing with me" but you saying I got to close just kinda.. dispelled that. Anyways.. all this to say while I can agree, people need to be careful about what they comment, I disagree that they shouldn't comment at all. I was not going to wait 12 eps to comment on something that I was excited about in the topic at hand when it will no longer be relevant, but it would be "safer" for one small point to be mentioned when my comment wasn't even about that. However I own that I should've left it where I did and just let you assume we were talking oppositely of how I felt, I think I just wanted to defend the author's hard work at that point. And finally, I'm new to the show, and want to enjoy it with other people new to the show, so I'm going to throw out theories and realizations or speculations on the characters feelings the same as anyone else does. Just because I come close, doesn't mean you guys have to verify that I was. I rather it be done the way CJ did, if at all, if you don't mind 😓

Chels

If you can't really talk about it without risking potential spoilers, maybe don't bring it up in the first place :) Also, knowing that you can't talk about certain things yet and formulating theories at the same time is a bit contradictory if you ask me... The 'theory' comment from CJ is probably a hint that you are a bit to spot on for it just to be a theory.

Rockycitygirl

The only problem with episodes being so heavy is that you guys don't want to instantly binge the next ep! 😭

Yellow_Flash

Subaru is just a teenager where his biggest worries were school and family. The other candidates were raised to lead and have blessings and power. But Subaru can learnfrom his mistakes due to his athority. Since his departure he has faced so much rejection which is destroying him. He cant directly tell what he knows or he has to fear what happened to Emilia. I mean the story forces him to go otherwise alotof people will die. Also Subaru is currently isolated . He experiences that he cant share . Imagine where your SO died and only you new. Basically Subaru could experience hell and nobody , not even your friends and family notices. In real life it would be someone suddely killimg themselves.

Ramish Butt

You said this way more articulately than my terrible attempt lol but yes! 100% but tack one the last one 5) He doesn't want to have to loop again and doesn't want to die. He was trying to avoid that outcome by the end until Emilia was an afterthought, so he was trying to take shortcuts to get what he wants. His thoughts became "I want to kill the cult. I don't want to die" not "I want to rescue her so much I can risk it all" that he had earlier on

Chels

Sliiiiight spoiler, but guess it's not a bad one. I 10k% agree with you. He's one of my top favs despite the whole.. you know.. "please die, thaaaaaanks" lol

Chels

You say "theory" like you know something or you think I know something and it's going to drive me crazy.. 😂

Chels

I've watched this season only once, and have watched season 2 twice, but now watching it along with you guys has allowed me to see so many clues and things I never noticed before. These past 4 episodes are the most gut-wrenching episodes this season. I hate watching Subaru be so utterly humiliated and helpless.

Sj Nolin

I agree with you, but I was commenting on something I can't say yet so I think that caused confusion lol what I mean is, the thing that we are thinking of when we rewatch this season, I think that thing was done as clever writing. They know their audience is feeling like he needs to reset, so they want to use that. The show has a real thematic meaning that hasn't been layed out yet, and then there's Subaru as our lead, but then we are thinking about "what is the best ending" So if the show has somewhere it wants to take us, and clearly the people in Subaru's life don't want him hurt, and he's being traumatized and tortured by this power, the fact the audience is sometimes rooting for him to die regardless, then the author does some stuff and things that can't be said but you'll know it when you see it. All this was fantastic manipulation using a story to get the viewers to a certain place.

Chels

“theory”

CJ

I don't think they're overusing it or making it seem easy for Subaru to reset everything. Especially in this episode, we could see how much he fears death and doesn't want to die. It's also very interesting because he usually needs more than one try – so it's not just about resetting and fixing the problem but about adapting and coming up with a proper solution. Still, in the end, it feels a bit cheap to know that he always has the option to redo everything, at any point and any time. Kind of weird, but I guess it's obvious to root for him to die and reset, since this is literally his only "power" as the main character.

Rockycitygirl

jonah and the whale. It is a well known biblical story. very similiar plot at the part where they screamed his name

Rockycitygirl

He was talking to himself, but Emilia assumed he was talking about her because of her issues. 😅 And ya, you got it by the end that his selfishness stems from his fear of dying, but I also think it's also his increasing desperation to get what he wants. He started out relatively noble "I can sacrifice myself for this girl because I care and I can do this" but now I think it's become "I can't do this, nothing is changing, I can't change anything even when I do die, so I don't want to die. I just want everyone to listen to me and understand what they can't understand. How dare they not listen to me after all I'm doing for them?" And he's just absolutely spiraling from it all, making us and the people around him frustrated with his behavior. They somewhat respected him at first but then he had to go being a greedy idiot. Oh oh! What if he really IS the whatever-ness of Pride? Because he both represents pride and the antithesis of it. He has no self worth, yet he wants others to value him more than he gives them reason to, he "has no pride" as in, he does shameless things all the time, but at the same time, he acts prideful like "I know what I'm doing, I know what I'm talking about, I can make everything ok" (before his spirit was crushed) 🤔 I'm sticking to this theory. I just have to say yet again how damn GOOD the writing is! Lol seriously.. I just caught onto something so good. xD I can't say what it is yet. I can only say, look at what we say and feel, even while Subaru is desperately trying to avoid the suffering he goes through, we are practically rooting for him to die to fix the bad outcomes. The author is aware of this reaction, 100% and now I'm more convinced they are sadistic as hell lol

Chels

I'm confused, who is Jonah and why did they scream it at the same time?

Hayate

otto gonna be one of the best characters later on,my goat

dubcow125

I think the reason why Subaru is portrayed as a greedy pig is because: 1) He has nothing to offer but wants handouts from everyone. 2) He is not considering what Emilia wants, like when he was making a deal with Crutch even if it would take her out of consideration for the throne. He is acting as if he had any authority to even make these deals in the first place. 3) All of what he’s doing, he claims he’s doing it for Emilia, but it’s obvious to everyone that he’s doing it for himself. You can see him slip up last episode where he actually wanted Emilia to be in trouble so that he can save her, which is why he kept repeating that “it wasn’t my fault” or “this isn’t what I wanted” out of guilt. Also, I do believe that Subaru was talking to himself when he was yelling at Emilia, otherwise it wouldn’t make any sense considering it describes himself perfectly.

Remember people no spoilers

all the candidates giving subaru advice in a roundabout way but his to focus on the goal of stopping the witch cult that he wasn't paying attention,Also refreshing to see how they acted with him in the begin compared to later own in the show.
