Re:Zero Episode 8

One of the biggest misconceptions that the anime could've ever done was show that Subaru was a "nice guy." I mean don't get me wrong he was definitely expecting a reward in return for his efforts, but I think that he was expecting Emilia to understand him. She was the one who lent an ear to his venting last arc after all and was the one to help him back on his feet. She should understand where he is coming from even if he can't say directly what he is feeling cos of Return by Death. But as Emilia said, that's a massive delusion to even expect that from someone. He is putting her on a pedestool, expecting her to be this perfect girl. Now regarding Subaru's actions last episode, he definitely was in the wrong. He was the one jealous of Julius and thinking he was taking her away. Such display of petty pride is embarrassing to watch indeed. Why doesn't he want her to be taken away? Because she saved him and gave him a place of belonging. Its all he's ever wanted. Emilia was that light that kept him sane and doesn't want to let that go. Because if he lost Emilia.. all the suffering would have been for nothing. He's only been able to stay strong as long as he did because being able to save Emilia and protecting the people he cares about gave him a reason to live and hope to keep moving forward. His actions came from good intentions. It also came from being selfish too, that can't be overlooked. Subaru holds onto the good intention as justification for the mistakes he did and that is why he is so stubborn to refuse he was wrong this episode. He truly believes because he did it with good intentions he doesn't deserve the cold treatment. And out of desperation to get back in good graces with Emilia and show her why he was in the right, he decides to come back to the mansion against everyone else's wishes. Why is he so desperate to prove himself as worthy? There has to be something there that explains his unprovoked insistance of projecting onto everyone that tries to stop him that they are doing so because they think he is a worthless good for nothing loser. When no one (except for Ram of course haha) has even implied such a thought.

2024-09-17 01:01:49 +0000 UTCSteph, when I said sloth was the most useless, I might have been slipping up subconsciously; however, I really do believe that sloth is the most useless, since all the other sins can cause actions that are positive despite the reason being bad. Sloth on the other hand is the lack of action. ie you can be envious of your brothers wife, and that can cause you to do something nice like babysitting her kids. The reason that pride was assumed to be Subaru, instead of other sins, will be revealed much later. You are correct that the cultists see the witch's scent as the witch's love. This author loves space, stars, planets, moons, comets and other space stuff. Betelgeuse is the brightest star in Orion. Subaru is the Japanese name for a 6/7 star cluster in Taurus, westerners usually call it by the Greek name Pleiades. Just keep a lookout for other space themed characters.

2024-09-12 14:33:53 +0000 UTCIncredible voice acting, iconic evil laugh I feel like the show was made for rewatches - the actual end scene with Rem doesn't do much anymore but the scene where she's talking with Crusch + Felix, the music swelling, "he's special." I tear up everytime. 100% on purpose. I'll put money on it. Also interesting, Subaru yelling "it's not my fault," throughout. Clearly it's not, but unless you're blaming yourself you wouldn't actually say that. Very intentional by the author, even if it doesn't mean much - just the way he operates I guess which I think is really cool.

2024-09-12 12:21:15 +0000 UTCThe reason why Julius challeged Subaru was to protect him by clearly displaying their superiority of the knoghts. Otherwise some knighty might have tried to kill him due to honor etc. This was skipped but Felix by healing Subarus gate hecan manipulate the consciousness of Subaru to not be a try hard. Rem saw this and tried ro protect Subaru from it. Thats why ahe learned to heal the gate. Julius is a kind hearted man but Felix is a mixed bag lmao

2024-09-12 11:59:07 +0000 UTCWhile it may not look like ot Subaru os one of the most kind hearted MC there is. Most people would have given up and start somewhere new. You should make a list with all the possible theories you have. Let the horror continue.

The head fell of and subaru looked that it weird as if it was foreshadowing "something." lol Well now you saw it. Awesome reaction as always and cannot wait till next time.

2024-09-12 05:06:55 +0000 UTCAm I the only one who thinks it's kind of adorable that Steph called Emilia "Emilia-sama?" Lol it's technically correct, but different from an American in English. Just really think it's sweet oddly π Ahhh.. man.. 2nd round watching this, you really see just how heartbreaking this episode really and truly is. Also yes, the voice and cat at the end are Puck. (First time, I thought it was Evil Emilia. What was wrong with my hearing?) One thing I both love and hate about this show is that they hint EVERYTHING with little clues about paths to take or what the heck is going on, strewn all over every scene. So much so, that it's easy to forget some and causes confusion when you have to wait a week between each episode. So.. I can't say much, but just to refresh your memories a little bit, there's a couple scenes where during one of those jokey conversations between Puck and Subaru, Puck plays the role of Emilia's father and says Subaru has to earn favor with him before he can get to Emilia, or that endearing himself to Puck will make it easier for him to get closer to her. So it was established earlier on that Puck views himself as her caretaker or a father figure. They also already explained that he was a spirit she met in the forest and made a contract with. The spirits in this show are born from nature and elements rather than humans, so Puck can't be biologically related to her, but Wes had very interesting theories lol. Beauty and the Beast one was my fav theory.

2024-09-12 00:45:54 +0000 UTCThe directors cut numbers made me forget which episode this was, honestly this part of the series is so hard to watch even after I've already seen it. It's so difficult to watch Subaru be broken down so thoroughly and methodically

2024-09-11 23:53:46 +0000 UTCOne of the most memorable episodes in anime! I remember the first time I watched it, I felt like I hadn't breathed for half an hour. Touched by the wonderful Rem's love for Subaru, horrified by her fate, horrified by what Subaru is going through, psychologically devastating, speechless by this end of ep in pure grandiose tragedy...and that music <3 Answers will come, and more questions. The next episodes are remarkably well written (ep 10 is another masterpiece). The ride isn't over yet!

2024-09-11 23:40:27 +0000 UTCYour question was already answered in the novel, but cut from the anime, the witch's miasma is at 0 at the start of every loop and increases when he dies, but starts to dissipate as time goes on, so that when he starts a new loop in a couple of months, he's back at 0
