This ep is so stressful for me lol I love Bokuto and Kuroo the most and seeing them against each other I am like "can we all just win?" Lol But ya I don't understand toxic hazing in sports. It's one thing to be cheeky and make competitive jabs, but being unnecessarily mean is not good sportsmanship at all, idc if it's "part of the game" no. Through history, the "mindgames" have always been more cheeky, or "look how strong we are" because sports were created to bring people together and act as replacement for war, trying to deter nations from attacking and instead, do it in the spirit of competition (also a little bit of "look at our prowess, you don't want to war with us" from the Greeks) so I think there should always be a level of sportsmanship, but Americans get so freaking mean~ like I was scared to work on football nights (when I worked at the bar) because there were multiple times where fights broke out over shit talking someone's team. I am just like "ya'll are literally getting mad enough to fight over a game where men in tights crawl all over each other and give each other concussions, chasing a piece of leather.. 😶" lol Even in video games! I hated how toxic WoW was, so I left it and ended up only playing FFXIV because it promotes healthy teamwork and communication, and the story itself is fantastic and teaches healthy life lessons (therapy in a game) but then WoW players started coming over and there's this huge divide between OG players and the WoW ones where FF players are like "ok team, here is the mechanics of the boss. Tank, do your thing, Healer you are amazing, just focus on this while we DPS that" and WoW players: "wHaT iS WrOnG wItH yOu, hEaLeR? cAnT yOu Do YoUr jOb rIgHt?" Like ya.. if you used your fucking shield and mitigations before pulling every mob and their mother.. 😩 Or even the time I was a tank and called out mechanics since there were a lot of new player symbols, and someone told me "stfu loser, I play how I want" and I was like "excuse me, you must've thought you're playing fortnite, because here in FF, you either respect the party and play with teamwork, or we get our ass handed to us, so we have the right to kick off anyone who don't wanna play nice with others" lol we ended up having to kick them out because they refused to follow mechanics and play their role. I'm like "this is a Japanese game ya'll. You don't respect others, you're gonna have a very hard time"

2024-12-13 23:57:32 +0000 UTCI was a pretty big trash talker in high school because it was part of us being really competitive… if you could get in the other team’s head, make them pay for being mentally weak, then that’s such a competitive advantage. In that regard… I kinda get it with what the other team is doing. (i.e. hard to fault them when I’d do stuff like yell “don’t worry, this guy can’t shoot, back off of him!” in basketball. Mean? Yea. Sometimes had to pay for it when the dude could shoot & took it as a challenge? Yea. But more often than not, it’d get their bad shooter to shoot them out the game cuz he took it as a challenge & started taking bad shots? Or it’d make a dude shoot worse than normal cuz he had that on his mind rather than just playing, and forces shots when he normally wouldn’t. Happens All the time.) At the same time, while some trash talk happens in pick up ball & stuff, it’s always supposed to be in good fun. You’re there to have fun & play a game, always weird when someone goes too far & turns the entire mood bad in an environment like that. Agree with Wes on the importance of being able to separate the two, there’s a time & a place for trash talk (in a competitive & serious environment), & even then I get having an issue when some people take it way too far.

2024-12-12 20:18:28 +0000 UTCTokyo’s prefecture is really big so they get to send 2 teams to nationals which are the finalists of this tournament. Since they are also hosting nationals they get to send one more team which is the 3rd place winner of this tournament. That makes 3 teams that are representing Tokyo at nationals
