2024-05-06 13:27:16 +0000 UTCIt was interesting to see you guys change your view of the main character over the course of the episode and I wonder how you'll react to the next one. The thing about poverty is that everyone thinks they can smart their way out of it but it almost never works like that. One little misstep, one late car payment, one unexpected hospital bill, one accident that puts you out of work and your whole life can be yanked out from under you. There will be more about this later but there's a reason the show chose to include 2 men who grew up in the same neighborhood, same circumstances where one has meager education and few employable skills and the other was able to excel at school and supposedly "make it". But at the end of the day they both still ended up in debt and in the game desperately trying to pay it off. And once you are poor you get stripped of all control over your life--moving, changing jobs, getting a car, and in this case being able to see your child when you want--you need money to do any of that. People in situations like that get desperate and will do anything that gives them the chance of escaping (gambling, selling illegal substances, stealing, selling sex). It's something this show does well: the players are all from different backgrounds and have different stories, some seem like they might be good people and others like very bad people. But no matter their character they are all being exploited by the game and game makers.

I love social commentaries and moral quandaries like this so although I'm already spotting some heated comments, I'm curious about your guys' takes on the different matters that come up. Also the one who saved MC is my favorite character besides Frontman (biased because I love the actor) and the NK girl. 🥰 And Wes was right about the Train to Busan actor lol

As someone lacking a parent and studies psychology and such, as long as the parent isn't endangering the child, I disagree with the mindset of "oh keep them away, they're a bad influence" because a child only knows they want their parents' love and the MC of the show is clearly a good dad to his daughter, just an irresponsible adult and husband, but he didn't disrespect his daughter or make her believe how he was living was right and good. He's doing the best he can with what he's capable at the time and that's all you can ask for from people who are ill, mentally or otherwise. The mom in the show is too uptight and I see it all the time, parents who get a bad divorce and try to weaponize their children. That's the vibes I get. As for the comments like "it's just a show" ya'll need to understand that yes, this is a show, but it's a social commentary about REAL problems that we all relate to. What we are reacting to is our real world experiences and world views so don't undermine people's responses. Some of us truly deal with this exact situation in life and are affected by seeing it play out 🙄 just be mindful of that and respect people's opinions without attacking them.

2024-05-03 19:45:33 +0000 UTCOutside of the main character, his mother, the guy from train to busan (😏), and the guy in the mask who oversees this game (I think they call him the front man) everyone else in this show are either new to acting or aren’t well known to audiences that usually just watch popular k-dramas. There are some OGs on the cast, including a few who are really popular, but most aren’t faces that would be familiar to international audiences who are only familiar with popular romcom k-dramas.
