The Uncle was there to give orders from Ri’s Dad who I think cannot come to the trial as it might be directly getting involved in court proceedings. So he sent the Uncle and the uncle made the unfair yet fair nod that gave him no right to appeal alongside the verdict going 100% against that dude. Dirty politics is played like this even at my country of Birth, Bangladesh. & in every country, you just don’t get to see it. Btw I think the Ri’s troops who are sent to get him back, I feel like they’re all gonna settle down in the South with her. She’s all alone in the south. And Manbok dude’s dying I feel it :)

2023-03-28 23:59:33 +0000 UTCYeah it's insanely difficult! I remember one of them said she had to swim across a river while they were shooting at her. Once they reach South Korea (after going through China typically) they have to undergo 3 months of rehabilitation before they can start living a normal life. And even then I'm not sure if "normal" is that great financially or otherwise.

2023-03-25 15:03:57 +0000 UTCjust to add a little bit of layers to this comment : it's because they cant go from north korea to south korean directly. Actually, the ""safest"" way to go to south korea is to go to china (sometimes japan) first and then, go to south korea. Also its take several months for new fake identity paper to go there as it's illegal and very expensive. Most defectors are poor and get stuck in china bc they're forced (one way or another) to go through prostitution or drug dealing so they can get cash. Even when they actually succed on going to south korea, it is not in the big cities like Seoul, Busan, Daegu etc. Its most of the time in the countryside and they donc really interact much with south korean. They go to specialized schools that teach them everything about south korea, but life's not easy.

2023-03-25 13:09:42 +0000 UTCHugs to Steph! 🫂 You really went through it during Man Bok's scenes. I can't even look at my screen coz I might cry too, more for Steph than Man Bok. I've seen CLOY a few times so I don't get too emotional anymore. But that gut-wrenching confession is one of my favorite parts and I love Man Bok's character too. Very well portrayed by Kim Young Min.

2023-03-25 10:42:25 +0000 UTCBtw, if you watch videos of North Korean defectors reviewing this drama they explain how defection takes several months (most of them said around 7 months), so this drama obviously didn't portray that realistically. Would be cool for you guys to watch real defectors reviewing the drama once you're done (not as a reaction or anything, just if you're interested). They explain which parts are realistic and which are not.

2023-03-24 22:41:26 +0000 UTCNo seri can’t carry a gun in South Korea. Citizens aren’t allowed to have guns no matter what. You can’t even get a license for it. Even cops have to get permission if they want to sign out a gun. Gun is very very controlled there.

2023-03-24 21:28:14 +0000 UTCThe dude in the end (green tracksuit) is a really famous actor (Kim Soo Hyun) The cameo he's playing in the end was a tribute to his own role as a North Korean spy in the movie, 'Secretly, Greatly'. That movie was a great hit, and is kinda legendary in South Korea. Anyway, love you guys.
