Moving Scam Additional Info:

Hello patrons! 

I don't want to say any names yet on the main channel b/c we're still dealing with these bozos, but for anyone moving or thinking about it, first, DO IT YOURSELF. If that is not an option though, STAY AWAY FROM:

- American National Movers (they're a broker, and they're horrible)

- Moving Central LLC. That is the legal name for American National Movers, same @$$holes.

- 11even Movers & Storage. Those are the scumbags that currently have the stuff. We had never heard of them until we were already on the road. They gouged Mia's mom and said 262 cubic feet of things require 1,250 cubic feet of truck space. They've missed two delivery dates and nobody calls you or answers the phone. 

- ABDA Moving LLC. This is the legal name for 11even Movers. Same @$$holes. 

So the broker likes to act like they're the movers and it seems like everything is fine. (Ask if they're movers or brokers, b/c many won't tell you if you don't know to ask.) Then on moving day, a new company (or "company") shows up, they load all of your things, and then say it'll be another $$$$$ b/c your inventory was larger than they thought (in our case, cut in half). 

If you dispute this, they might just disappear (or maybe they'll dump your stuff, on the driveway, or somewhere else, who knows). They hold your things hostage, and they want final payment in cash. If you don't pay, they'll sell your stuff to collect payment (and it actually does say that on the contract, on the back. Lots and lots of tiny print to read!)

So, one place Mia and I visited was an actual legit moving company here in PA. My dad actually represented them many years ago and was also good friends with the owner, so I knew to look them up. (I don't think they were available for Roseburg either though, otherwise would've gone with them). Anyway... they were very nice. They have truck scales there. 

We (and you!) are legally entitled to a re-weigh, and you can witness it. Free of charge to you. This is a legal requirement that commercial motor carriers are responsible for doing. The legit company said we can use their scale. Bring those scumbags over there and let them unload and re-load the truck and get an accurate weight measurement. Sounds good to us!

It's they're legit, that's not a problem. These guys might just say "so you refuse delivery" and make a run for it, never showing up at the scale. They vanish and auction off Mia's things which they're allowed to do. It would be great if an officer would like to kinda escort them to the scale and back.

So, we still have some things to figure out and some people to talk to. But, those are some things to know for now. Research whoever you hire. Use BBB (people can say whatever they want on Yelp, Better Business Bureau  is more official). Find the address of the movers and use Google Maps street view, does it look like a moving company? Or a frozen yogurt place? You want to see a building with the name of the place on it and their truck fleet. If it's somebody's house or Chinese food, abort! 

Look up their DOT number. How many trucks are in their fleet? How many drivers? 11even has one truck, one driver. Seems shady for an interstate mover. But, they are listed. They're legit enough that we can't say 100% fraud. The company is legit despite being horribly dishonest. They're flying under the radar. 

Also stay away from Vintage Van Lines. That's another company doing the same thing. They might actually be 100% scam, and not licensed to operate in Florida.
