September 2022 Production Update

I’m currently still working on 50 Ways to Die in Minecraft Part 15, as I have been since January. Progress has been extremely slow so far because I decided to start with the hardest part of the video (the “Big Clip”) first to get it out of the way. When I first started working on the Big Clip, I expected it to take me about a month or a month and a half to animate, just like the A-10 scene at the end of Part 14. Well, my time estimate was wrong by a factor of about six, because I started working on it in February and I only just finished it about a week and a half ago. It took me 6 months to animate the Big Clip. If I had known it was going to take me until mid-august to finish the Big Clip, I would have never attempted it. If I had known halfway through March that I was still 5 months away from finishing the Big Clip, I would have dropped all my progress and moved on to the rest of Part 15. But I kept working on it because every step of the process seemed like it was the “hard part” and the rest of the process would be easier. That may have been true, but “easier” doesn’t mean the same thing as “takes less time”. So here we are 6 months later and I STILL don’t have much of Part 15 done.

But that finally ended this month because I actually managed to finish the Big Clip and start work on the other 45 clips I need for Part 15. Well, the big clip is not exactly “finished,” but it’s reached a point where my computer is going to be doing most of the work and I don’t need to domuch myself anymore. So even though the Big Clip is still technically not done, it’s no longer holding me back from working on the rest of the video now, so in September, I can work on the rest of the video during the day, and my computer will continue working on the Big Clip at night. If everything goes smoothly from here on, I should be able to finish Part 15 in time for an early December release.
