May 2021 Production Update

In April, I worked on the final edits of Parts 12 and 13. I started by deciding which clips would go into which video, then decided what order they should go in. This process is a lot more time-consuming than you might think. It took most of April.

Then, after that, I went searching for music, which is usually also a pretty time-consuming process because there’s no way to know if a particular piece of music will work for a 50 Ways to Die video without actually listening to it. No keyword, title, or description of a piece of music can ever help me determine if it will work in a comedy montage. My only option is to just keep looking for collections of music that MIGHT have tracks that fit my montages and then listen to every track in those collections one by one. It’s the only way to make sure I’m not wasting my time by listening to the same music tracks over and over again.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the music I listen to during this process doesn’t work for my videos, but luckily, this time, the process was a little faster than usual because I still had a lot of usable tracks left over from parts 10 and 11, so I really didn’t need to find that much music.

Once I felt I had enough music, I began the process of syncing the music to the clips to make the montage, which is one of the hardest parts of making these videos. It’s kind of like trying to make a picture out of a collection of random puzzle pieces taken from different puzzles. At the time I’m writing this, I’m about 2/3 of the way through making the montages of both parts. Once those are done, everything after that should be pretty straightforward. I’ll just need to make the intros, the credits, the trailers, and the thumbnails. I’ve already got ideas lined up for most of that. I’m also going to try to make some Shorts to release in the week leading up to the releases to draw more attention to the channel.
