February 2021 Production Update

Last month, I said that I was thinking of working on parts 12 and 13 together because I believe 50 Ways videos tend to turn out better when I make them two at a time. I didn’t have enough ideas to make 2 videos, so I spent most of January brainstorming new ideas for parts 12 and 13. Then I sorted them from funniest to least funny.

By January 20th, I had enough ideas to to start production on the clips. In order to make two 50 ways videos, I need 120 clips: two sets of 50 and two extra sets of 10 to be rejectable for quality control. I want both videos to be finished by June 1 and I want to have 2 months available to make the final edits, so that means I need to be finished with the clips by April 1. Since I started production on January 20, that means I have 71 days to record and edit 81 clips. That comes out to an average of 1.14 clips per day.

My usual tactic is to start production on the funniest clips first, then work my way down (hence the sorting), but the funniest clip on my list took me 3 days to make all by itself, which put me way behind schedule. So now, I’m still going to do them in the order of funniest first, but I’m going to skip the ones that seem time consuming for now and focus on the fast ones until I have a greater lead on my schedule. Then, once I’m far enough ahead, I might be able to go back and work on some more of the time consuming clips. But if I don’t have time, I’ll still have all those shorter clips to make the video with.

So for February, I’m going to continue production on clips for parts 12 and 13.
