April 2020 Production Update

I managed to get a few more Halloween clips recorded in March, but not as many as I would have hoped. The ones I did record were some of the most time consuming clips on the list. The next clips I’m going to record don’t look like they’ll take as long.  

But before I record any more Halloween clips, I’m going to have to do more work to prepare for the release of Part 11. When I made Part 11, I was making much more ad revenue than I thought I needed for 2019, so I didn’t bother trying to make the video 10 minutes long. I usually don’t bother messing with that unless the video is going to be around 9 minutes and 55 seconds long anyway. Also, when I decided not to worry about the length of the video, I hadn’t yet made the decision to hold the video until summer of 2020 so that I could make a Halloween video, so I expected that I would be making another regular 50 Ways video or two for summer and I imagined that one of those might be 10 minutes long to pick up the slack. Last year, I had a new 10 minute video to put up for summer and a re-release of another 10 minute video that was unexpectedly very successful. But this year, summer is coming and I only have one 9 minute long video to put up.

So far, this year has been kinda weak with ad revenue. January and February are usually pretty bad anyway, but they were much worse than usual this year and it took much longer for my channel to recover from the slump for some reason. Things were looking good in late February and March, but lately, the views have gone down again and they aren’t going up on weekends anymore like they used to. This has me worried because I’m not going to have anything to bolster viewership until June when Part 11 comes out. And it also seems that my revenue per view is also going down, too.  I think the coronavirus might have something to do with that. On top of that, I just did my taxes and found out that I owe the IRS a lot more than I was expecting for last year AND my estimated tax payments for this year are going up as well. The bottom line is that I’m starting to worry that I’m not going to bring home enough bacon this year. Incidentally, thank you guys for supporting my Patreon.

So this month, I’m going to spend a few weeks adding about 50 seconds of bonus ways to die to Part 11. I doubt that’ll be enough to catch me up with last year, but hopefully it will help make up for this weak first half of the year. Once I’m done with that, I’ll continue working on the Halloween video.
