[Archived] Atria and Egg

Hiii!!

I am stoked to release my newest dragon design! I named her Atria after the Atria star. Everything that's included in this release:

✨ Atria

✨ 2 prepainted 3MF files

✨ Egg with twist closure

Atria was tested down to 50% but I don't recommend going below 60%

Please make sure that when you are editing the 3MFs that you are NOT painting the eyes, with the paint tool. They are split to parts and painting them will create uneven paint lines. Instead please assign color to them from object list located in the left side panel

The egg

I took some extra time to work on a new egg closure. I always have requests for a twist closure and I finally took the leap to create it. There are two ways to close, you can twist right for a quick closure, or twist left for a longer one.

There is one possible issue with twist eggs, they require proper tolerance configurations. During testing my testers experienced the top of the egg being a bit loose, and then there were tests that came back perfect. The tolerance is going to depend on many factors like different brands and types of filament being used, printers, and flow settings.

I have included a tolerance test for the top of the egg. You can print the bottom and then if you wish print the tolerance test of the top to see if you need to scale the top of the egg up or down depending the tolerance test result. I recommend scaling 0.5-1% depending on how loose or tight the egg is.

Tolerance testing may not be necessary, all the tests came back with functional eggs even if they were a bit loose.

If you are finding that the egg is tight to close, you can add a bit of lubrication like the kind you use to lubricate the rails of your printer on the main thread, then wiping it off.

The small egg in the pictures is 60% scale, I did find that for me the top was just a bit tight at that scale, I applied lubricant to the thread and it made it easier to open and close.

I found using 2 walls, and 5% 3d Honeycomb infill (bambu slicer) to be sufficient for the egg. Please use Arachne Wall generator setting if you are using bambu slicer to print the top of the egg.

100% Atria Fits in 100% egg

Oh good! wanted to make sure 🥰🥰

Christine

Yep! I didn't see the discord link until after I posted this.

Mark Sheffield

Hii!! I believe we were chatting about this in discord?

Christine

This is awesome. The top 10mm of the egg doesn't print well for me. It appears to be under-extruding. I've printed it 3 times with various settings and with and without support, but it's the same all 3 times. Any ideas? I'm using an A1.

Mark Sheffield

kikoo !!! Ma 1ere impression sur ce fichier 14h de patience a l'observer prendre vie , une vraie beauté !!!

Jessy Brujean

thank you i was able to buy as few files i was missing

Carolina

looks like you were subscribed when this was released! It will be in your My mini factory library! If you have issues finding it, send me a message

Christine

Hii!! if you expend the post and scroll down you’ll see cults3d and My mini factory links!

Christine

hello i was wondering if i could get some help to locate the atria file i cant find the link at the bottom of the page . thank you in advance and excellent work by the way!!!

Carolina

How long does it take to print?

Cheryl Hochstetler

hii!! at 90% the base is 6 solid layers, I created it this way so that it only has solid layers without infill layers. The egg being a container I don't see the benefit of having a really thick bottom, it would increase print time and filament use. I don't recommend printing the bottom section of the egg upside down as that would result in needing supports and the bottom of the egg becoming a very large overhang which is likely to create issues. You can send me a direct message with the issues you are having printing it bottom down.

Christine

I printed the egg at 90% and the base is so thin, I had to print upside down because my print kept failing. Please make the base a bit thicker. Thanks, Love Atria and egg!

Liz Kuntz

The shape of the eye wouldn’t allow for a glass eye to fit, unless you get super small ones maybe

Christine

Would you happen to know what size millimeter glass eye would fit her? ? 🙏😅

Lotus love

Hii!! Welcome! No need to buy! follow the link at the bottom of the post and then scroll all the way down and you’ll see the Atria download link 🥰

Christine

hello i am just a new member. where can i find this file to buy. I love to make atria

Scarfii

i love that idea!

Alexis Stoyanova

That’s awesome!! i’m super glad to hear that!!

Christine

I feel like she would but I unfortunately didn’t test it

Christine

Had to just say this is the most amazing closure for the egg ever!!!! I hope you make more containers and eggs with this type of closing. LOVE IT!!!!!

Alexis Stoyanova

I saw a post where some said the Rubi dragon fits in this egg, does the Kaida fit in this egg as well?

Julie Conrad

I just printed her. My favorite dragon so far. She need a cloud bed to perch on...

Jamie Sanchez

Just printed a beautiful Atria and an egg. You can fit Rubikuro in the Atria egg nicely, if anyone was needing an egg idea for Rubikuro. I love them allll

Whimsy and Wonder Boutique- Hannah Wilson

Hii!! Use the "fill" tool when painting the stars, it will grab the entire star in most cases, when it doesn't lower your "small fill angle" a little until it does 🥰

Christine

This dragon prints so beautifully wow. Any chance we could get an egg version that makes coloring the stars easier? I spent two hours manually painting them in Bambu but it ended up printing not so pretty and I assume it’s because of how i painted it.

Anthony Ashcraft

hii!! I tried smaller eggs, and thinner walls but that resulted in some struggling to fit the dragons in the egg like kaidas egg. Thinner walls also required special printing settings. You can scale the egg down a bit and see if she still fits

Christine

I love these but the egg demands a fair bit of filament. Anyway you can optimise them appreciating the required joint?

WkidArt

That blue/purple glitter is gorg!

stacyela

Shes printing now! Cant wait 😍

Jill Groen (TheGreenStones)

Trop beau hâte d'avoir le bébé ! félicitation!!

Lucky Smile

What an Angel

Jamie Sanchez

Can't wait for the baby!

Zeustopher

Been keeping the printer empty for this release! So excited. Starting now!

Alexis Stoyanova

yep!

Christine

Does the egg and dragon scale down 1:1? example, 70% egg fits 70% dragon - 60% egg fits 60% dragon ? appreciate the guidance!

Douglas Burgess

Thank you! I don’t at the moment

Christine

Love the pink and yellow! Do you have an amazon link page with the filaments you use?

Chrissie Stern

I would print another egg both top and bottom with a change in the size like explained and then pair a new bottom with the old top and the bottom of the first print with the second print top. You’ll have two eggs but they’ll feel more secure

Justine Taylor

Wow this dragon turned out gorgeous, I love its little Cupid wings, can’t wait for the baby version so I can make minis!

Callys3DPrinting

Gorgeous work as usual!!😍

Jasmine Julian

The baby will have a straight version, I haven’t tried that out for the big ones. If you’re wanting to do it you can give it a go in the slicer by moving the links around, just hold alt and click on the sections to move them (bambu slicer)

Christine

Beautiful - Love these and the kids do too - any plans of doing one straight?

BobaFett

If your nervous about it being too loose I would run the tolerance test until you find the right tolerance, once you do then the top of the egg will print just right 🥰

Christine

Post print you can add layers of wood putty. Or another medium you prefer and sand it down to add layers of thickness to it.

GeekMatter

1. I love these. 2. I've been waiting for a reason to print another egg. 3. Love the model and the colors! Will tag ya in the upload!

GeekMatter

What is i printed an entire egg and it is too loose? Any advice to give it more grip post print?

Kendra Kent

Depending on how loose they are you would scale the top of the egg down 0.5-1%. if they are super loose then I would scale down 1% and rerun the tolerance test. If they are alright but it feels like it could be tighter I would scale down 0.5%

Christine

Beautiful!

James [bucklenshackle] 🇨🇦

What do we do if we feel the threads are too loose?

Kendra Kent

She's beautiful! 😍

DancingKaidas3D

Llloooooovvveeee it

April McAuley

Wow, that's amazing! I'm so glad we have a twist-close egg now! The kids love your dragons, so having an easy-to-close egg for them will be nice now!

Jill Martin
