[Poll] Patreon x Apple Billing Changes

So for those who are unaware, Apple is making Patreon change their billing cycle to charge on the day of the month they join rather than on the 1st of the month. This kind of shakes up our current business model as we're focused on "Monthly" release packs. I've postponed the change on the Galactic Armory Patreon until November of 2025 so we have some time do discuss it.

Because I've postponed the changes, people will be unable to sign up to our Patreon over the iOS app starting in November. I wanted to gauge how impactful that actually is so if you're an Apple user please be sure to vote below.

Please note: Signing up on the app and using the app are different things. The only people impacted are those who signed up on the app.

Same, you can afford it its the best route. I could never print everything he has. I might make that a challenge, print all of his helmets :)

Annual subscription here!

I'm an android user, but prefer my PC for rendering files

buckiebull

I signed up for the annual anyways

You could do weekly releases then at most a person could game is a week. I can understand why Apple would enforce this. Most subscriptions work that way. Apple likes to force devs into doing things the ‘Apple’ way. For better or worse. Certainly disruptive for the creators that don’t provide content that way. I’m sure most of your supporters would sign up on web.

Josh Lytle

Like others have stated use the web

I signed up on for the annual on IOS. I’m guessing I have to not renew next year and sign up again through the web.

Randy Puga

I can't remember which i signed up on, it's been awhile. typically i use the app to follow notifications but mostly interact with stuff on the web because the app kinda sucks.

James Bunker

How do I find out where I signed up?

Kevsteelio

Just sign up on web for annual. Problem solved

Yeh, that’s pretty poor, so the only real way you could get around their rules would be to batch release everything on the last day of the month, then release updates throughout the month on what’s upcoming… which isn’t as good for the community let’s face it, and doesn’t drive engagement in the same way. Here’s hoping they roll that back

Phil Monk

Yep you're exactly right so we might have to change some things around. Sadly it only has the option to postpone things until next year while not taking new ios users through the app.

I recently switched all my subscription stuff off the phone and picked it up through the websites themselves. Apple is basically charging a fee because you signed up through an iOS device. For example something like YouTube premium cost 13.99 but if you sign up through the iOS YouTube app it will cost you 16.99. All that extra $3 goes right into apples pockets. It’s a fee/tax for them processing it instead of YouTube. If you cancel the subscription on your iOS device and go to Patreon and sign up you can still use the Patreon app but will avoid the Apple tax.

I honestly don’t remember which I used … But I am an apple user.

Does this break the monthly business model then? So, if you signed up on the 28th, you would currently get everything from last month, then everything in the next month? (Which is terrible for content creators) The current model does make it far easier as a user, because otherwise we’d have to keep far more on top of downloading the files. Do you have the option to not allow signups through Apple, and keep the monthly payments? -I for one would be willing to just cancel paying through Apple and set up payments separately through patreon (or swap to another service like minifactory if you put the files up on there),

Phil Monk

i am an apple user and I am not sure as I use both to access and change memberships for different patreons
