After the John Ray presser on the daughter, I would take anything he says with a grain of salt.

Hi all on Hidden True Crime, I just joined as a patreon member. I really like your interaction with each other and having both a journalist and a forensic psychologist on the panel is a huge bonus. You are an amazing couple and so sweet ❤️ it's obvious that you are crazy in love.

How do predictors pick a life partner? Is there any research or have you noticed anything in your practice? Any thoughts as to why Heuermann would chose Asa as a wife? She doesn’t appear to be his “type” … easily physically dominated. Although she is born in the US she is culturally Nordic which don’t tend to be push-overs. (considering this discussion I suppose his type is anything I suppose).

Are crossover sex offenders more likely to have psychopathic traits?

Amy N.

He could have been supercontrolling and dominating over ASA as well, and she my have not been a willing participant in the sex parties.

Ronald Helm

This does seem to indicate that the wife was aware of Rex’s proclivities. Maybe that is why she left the country so frequently. But the affidavit seems to indicate that at least 2 police officers were if not involved they were aware of the situation. Perhaps the cause of the lack of investigation?

Mary Kaye Sugerman

Hi Lauren and Dr. John - how credible do you find these new witness statements about Shannon Gilbert and Rex being together previously? Does this change your thoughts on if Shannon's tragic death was an accident or foul play? Thank! You can use my first name if you chose this question.

Ashley Wheeler

I posted my question in YouTube. But it is for Dr. John since it has been a topic of my husband and my conversation today. My question is: Is it elusive or illusive? :)

Dr. Vonda Kaye

Do you have any thoughts about the swinging and how it relates to this case in any way, but I’m thinking his pathology etc? Is this likely a sexual thing or power? I am unfamiliar with this “culture”. Also the whole police officer who allegedly brought the victim to Rex’s house. Rex claiming he was a police officer on another occasion… is it possible Shannon Gilbert may not have been as crazy as initially thought? In a very different way, this seems to have many more tentacles like the Daybell case does… the further you look into it the wider spread it seems. Also, having been to Iceland I would never have expected for him to look to control a woman from there. There are other cultures where females are raised to be more submissive. Probably don’t use my name if you do mention these comments.

Could Asa have been in a collusive relationship without knowing about the murders? And this is a question when you do Ruby Franke again. Are the parents ordered to give money to the older sister now that she’s taking care of her younger brothers and sister? . It seems like it would have to be state ordered because her dad would like her charged arrested and prob he would like if she also served time. Could their father be arrested for ignoring the family for 13 mos while his children were being abused? Is it a crime to abandon your family while crimes on your children are occurring? Thank you so much using my YouTube name is fine.

Do you know if the police ended up interviewing Asa? Now she is placed as a witness in the Vergata case by the new witness-which occurred a couple weeks before they were married! It sure did not sound like she wanted to participate in the sex party that evening, and he already had the basement set up for his debauchery before the marriage. Her lawyer said in the summer she had not been interviewed, which I found to be very hard to believe, living in that tiny house. It is hard to believe she went ahead and married him. Why would she stay with him? He is obviously scary and abusive, emotionally, physically and financially, but her parents apparently lived in the neighborhood and she could have easily gone back to them. What do you suppose is going on here?? It doesn't seem like there was any benefit to staying with this guy, and she could have gone to the cops and reported the incident with Vergata for starters to find protection-or did he have the police in cahoots and she had no where to turn? Her comment, "it is what it is" really from the get go sounded like she knows a LOT!! What is going on??

See y’all there 🙂 GG73

Hi! Please don't share my Patreon name, but feel free to share my YouTube username "Imia" (pronounced ee-me-ah). My question is not related to this case in particular, so it's no problem if it's not read. I've thought about this a lot since the Daybell case started and their beliefs in portals became known. I'm interested in where a belief or spiritual practice crosses over into delusion. Between old indigenous beliefs, the big world religions and new age spiritualism, there is so much diversity. How do we know if a belief is just unfamiliar to us or is a sign of something more sinister?

Imia

Anything on coercive control - I have no doubt that she was terrified of him. And maybe suffering with some mental health problems herself and has a son with learning difficulties. I think that if she had left him they would not have been safe anywhere . Also, is there any way you could address the Shannan Gilbert connection that was made public recently? She came across him months before she died and narrowly escaped him once. I think that he would have spent a lot of effort on finding her again. Thank you so much for all you do 😊

Ok with my name shared. Hi, I’m new here! I’m going out for dinner so not sure if I’ll be back to see this live, but will def watch on replay. I have so many things on my mind about this case. The family system seems so unusual in many ways. I’m curious about Rex having his adult daughter work in his office. With his extra curriculars, that seems risky. And if Asa was aware as that lawyer alleges, I would think it tough to hide these behaviors from the children in a small home if both are involved. Or is the theory that the wife is no longer involved?

Shelly Ransom

Why does society seem to want to blame women for everything? I was married to an alcoholic. Friends and family pressured me to make him stop. From the get go in this case it seems like a lot of folks expected Asa to not only know what was going on but to stop it. It’s maddening 😭

DaleK.

Happy for my name to be shared. Given the new information on Rex's having had sexual relations with a man how likely is A: the male body found is likely one of his victims & B: is it unusual to break away from his "type/MO" of his victim profile? OR maybe there are more male victims? Thanks 🙏🏼 Rachel Meadows.

Rachel Meadows

Why would someone have such a break between killings? Do you think there us likely more victims and they just haven’t been tied to Rex? You can use my name. Also, thanks for all you two do.

Debi Biggs

Asa is from Iceland. How did she meet Rex? Did Rex “bring her to America “? Could this be a situation where he “purchased” a bride that he could control ?
