PATREON ONLY PODCAST- DAYBELL TRIAL RECAP with Lauren and John

Another unedited dinner table conversation. Today we share a few inside stories about the Lori Vallow Daybell trial.

Comments

“Going to go start a wood sign company now” 😂 Lauren. Classic.

AdaBlue

Lori worked with children in church. I suggest that she was enacting a puppet ministry skit with sock puppets in jail. She could probably present a cute 3 part talent show in jail with sock puppets, like Shari Lewis or "Heard It Through The Grapevine" comedy dance.

TN Barb

I'd put Dr. John above Fauci any day!!!

Bonnie Hitchcock

Hi Jennifer, I noticed you just joined book club and I want to as well. But I don’t know the days or dates. Also the date of their most recent u-tube of Patreon post? Would you be able to help me with this. Thanks so much

Katie Manock

Yes, it would be great if Dr. John could elaborate on this. Why is Lori someone who doesn't necessarily want a lot of freedom? Because the belief system to which she clings is ultimately self-destructive and self-confining?

Cathy Earnshaw

Wow, yes. "ONLY CONNECT" + "SEE BETTER." The public is {fruitlessly/ foolishly?} waiting to see the Prophet and the Goddess come to this realization. sock puppet riffing keeps the anti-dream alive I guess.

Nephthys

This was great to get to know a bit of "behind the scenes". For the record, I watched every live you did and all of the court audio at night. Thank you Lauren and Dr Babe.

Bjorn

If Chad truly believes he is a prophet it shouldn’t matter to him if he gets the death penalty. Why would a prophet be afraid of death? His current life is only one of his many lives. However, if he knows, in his heart of hearts, that he is a fraud (IMHO: A Fraud😉) he would fight the death penalty because he doesn’t know what’s behind that veil and in actuality, Chad Daybell, the human, is petrified of death and his subsequent judgment day.

Robin Watson

Lauren and Dr. John, yes, it doesn't matter where you are, it's who you are with....Home is where the heart is...some may think corny, but it's so very true.

Ginger Haydon

I really enjoy you two being able to chill, and share without worrying of platforms like YT's ever-growing strangeness on topic and verbiage

maija

Lori's extremely vain - loss of her looks, and being without access to basic skincare and cosmetics will age her even more so as the last 3 yrs and this is part of her new deep torment as well as the loss of her loin fire fantasy and his fueling of her ego. She can sit as her head unravels in noisy, nasty prison for the very rest of her crap life. She'll become faded and hardened 10x over. Opening now are consequences that Lori has never faced in life and since she first pushed for the murder Joe Ryan (IMO).

maija

Thanks for the debrief

Lauren, one other thing, as I’ve had time to digest. It’s really interesting how John Prior engaged with everyone. Curious as to what he was saying to Justin and Nate. It almost seems like he’s really wanting to make his presence known. Also interesting is his past with the battery charges. So much to unpack there!

Jennifer

Great podcast! Thank you both for all your hard work and insight.

Anne L Wennerstrand

Aloha from Kauai, great podcast! I so enjoyed following your tweets Lauren during the trial. The lunch lives were also a highlight. Good you two are back under the same roof with your son. Unward and upward! Love to you all.🌸💗🌸💗

Lynn Bowen

To me, coming to her senses has no reward for Lori. On the one hand, she's a powerful goddess who is going to lead the 144,000 and saved her children from possession. On the other hand, she's a mother who killed her children because she was deluded and is ordinary.

Lisa

Glad you are back under the same roof but, it was good to have Lauren there so that we could get the ins and outs of the whole thing. That was a lot of work. I would tune in as much as I could, to get Lauren's take on the day. I guess we will have to wait and see what round 2 brings when they get Chad to court. Thank you for what you do..

Linda

I just so happen to be reading Howards End this month! Thank you for another good episode. I look forward to your podcasts

Carol McIntosh

So great to hear both of you. Lauren~how has it been readjusting to life outside of the Ada County Courthouse? The trial wouldn’t have been the same without your amazing coverage. 💜

Katrina Krueger

Got such a kick out of John’s description of his prepping for the Vargas show. Reminded me of my late husband’s wardrobe choices (also a PhD psychologist)

Nancy G

I was trying to remember who she reminded me of and it was her Wanda Barzee . Zumela reminds me of someone as well and I can’t put my finger on who

@Teejay

Dr John - you said about Lori: “I don’t think this is someone who necessarily wants a lot of freedom.” I am really curious about this and would love to hear you discuss this more.

Laura Biddle

I don't think she was ever on the "normal" spectrum. She was on a toxic and destructive path from the beginning. Knowing someone is at risk and doing nothing is unethical, but I do not think it is a punishable offense unless you were actually there at the time of the crime. Denial is a part of the human condition. It's a defense mechanism, not a mental illness. Phenothiazine antipsychotics are medicines that are used to reduce hallucinations and delusions associated with psychosis. Is Lori psychotic? Does she have a personality disorder?

Erica A. Zwick

I would love to listen John's synopsis of several movies and TV shows.

Beth VanMatre

It wasn't just lust...it was pathology

Erica A. Zwick

For those who have never read Howards End (or missed Emma Thompson in the 1992 film version), it is a book about human connection. Margaret Schlegel-the older of the two cultivated, well-to-do sisters central to the story-becomes impassioned over the phrase "Only connect!" which carries two meanings. One is a call to unite the opposing elements within each person-what Margaret calls the beast and the monk, the prose and the passion-while the other is a call to put the greatest energy into personal relations. "Only connect!" is the book's epigraph, and whenever Forster speaks as narrator he emphasizes the value of personal relationships. https://prospect.org/culture/books/connecting-e.m.-forster/

Erica A. Zwick

I love the media angle. Thank you Dr. John.

Dr. Vonda Kaye

Oh, and I just joined the book club and look forward to it!

Jennifer

I miss Lauren’s lunch updates!!! So grateful I found this podcast 💗 I own two stores and one art gallery so I work A LOT of late nights….you are both my constant companions while I work!! I keep the best company! ☺️

Susan Sloan

Thank you so much for this update!! Just love your brilliant insight, warmth and humor 💗

Susan Sloan

I believe “Only Connect” is from the brilliantly written Howard’s End! May be wrong though….love that quote!

Susan Sloan

Lauren & John, thanks so much for doing this. I feel like I needed a debrief from this trial and you had some interesting tidbits to share! Lauren, it was so nice to meet you at the trial. My daughter (Madisun) and I attended court 2 days, an experience I will never forget! The feeling in that courtroom was something you just can put into words. It was fun sitting behind you and Gigi on our second day, much less stress than the other side. Those bailiffs were no joke, for good reason! Hopefully we will connect again! Maybe in Arizona or back in Idaho for the BK trial 😀

Jennifer

When I saw Lori’s mug shot with the braids, it actually reminded me of Wanda Barzee (the woman involved with Elizabeth Smart’s disappearance). She always stuck by that crazy religious fanatic Brian Mitchell and they did terrible things under the name of religion. Do you think their mental state maybe similar? Anyways thank you Lauren and John for all that you do, I often mention you both to my co-workers and your great insight into these cases.

Christine

Missed you both, enjoy your friendly banter. I kinda miss these short-lived forays into someone else's f'd up life (murdaugh, Lori).

Carla Perkins

Lauren, the comment you made about Wilson totally cracked me up. Laughter is truly the best medicine when life gets too serious. Love that about you! I appreciate your lunch lives before I arrived the last week of the trial & also the live chats of the recordings of what happened in the day trial. Your work & dedication to informing your followers (not cult members lol) is so impressive. I enjoyed Dr. John’s reference to King Lear’s daughters, I believe that was how Chad won over Lori. This was my first time in Boise & I too loved that city & all the local people that I met. I can truly understand your love for that city. Great idea to include documentaries & movies with the book club discussions. I am a visual & audible learner, so I am looking forward to those.

Marcella Able

IF Chad "throws Lori under the bus" or if he testifies that he doesn't really believe the religious precepts that he espoused, would that perhaps get Lori to see that it was all a delusion?

Monica Caplan

Just started listening and appreciate you both so much!

Nancy Hoagland-Fuchs

Howard’s End!!! 💗💗💗

Hi from Victoria Australia ;-)

Tad Auty

Thanks again Lauren and John (and Banks ) for your sacrifice for this case. I love how you guys model appreciation, team work and independence as well. The fact you could be apart for that time and let Lauren be busy and focus without having to worry she wasn’t making much contact is such a great sign of a secure relationship between two adults. I used to date a musician who toured internationally and we were always amazing at how others viewed us. Or would be anxious about it more than we were. I mean sure we would miss each other, but absence makes the heart grow even more fonder. Ps Yay for taking up my suggestion re docos or movies. I’m more the doco type, but one thing that will help me focus on a movie, like at school, is if there’s a test at the end. Lol Or in this case- a zoom discussion !

Tad Auty

Interesting the reference to King Lears daughters. My dad was born in 1929 and very “deeds not words”. He wasn’t very physically affectionate or verbally either- which many people hear me say and criticise. But I’d say all of us kids felt loved by him because of his actions- how he respected our mum and provided for us - I think this actually has made most of us kids less susceptible to people trying to use charm too much. Someone simply saying “I love you “ won’t make us swoon unless their actions are loving. We don’t care too much about the words if they don’t match the deeds. I am actually quite suspicious of people who just say nice things and value my friendships where honesty is at the core rather than just an echo chamber of agreement. I think it made me somewhat cult proof because the love bombing phase would just make me suspicious rather than flattered.

Tad Auty

Oh I hope so! Too may people knew these peoples lives were at risk and did nothing - well supported the actions of chad Lori and Alex. I think more than two people should be in jail for these crimes

Tad Auty

If Lori was so called “normal before “ surely it takes a severe mental illness of some kind to keep her in this state of denial about what she did to her own children. It’s obvious she hasn’t agreed to take phenothiazines that may bring her back to her level of “normal “ . Sorry I missed the live I’m new here love HTC . I agree but I think CD will not only rat Lori out but hopefully anyone else that has had a hand in any of the deaths , in an attempt to try and save himself .
