Good reasons for me: Better assess attacker's abilities and their weapon's capabilities. More familiar with melee weapons in general, just in case I have to use one ever. What's missing... an emphasis on how bad of an idea fighting an adversary(ies) while both parties are armed with bladed weapons. You'll get cut for almost certain, assume you will; and you might die even if you win. This is like Seven Samurai, but modern day, those armed with swords and other melee weapons are actually the peasants/farmers with their bamboo spears and farming tools...
