Arrow goes FWOOSH!

Shadiversity tackles the strongest criticism issued against his claims that medieval archers shot on the other side of the longbow with three fingers, and shows VIDEO PROOF that they are WRONG!

Arrow goes FWOOSH!

Comments

The first thing you need to do is install a knock point of some sort that locks your arrow in the same position every shot. This knock point needs to be about 1/2 inch above the resting point on the bow perpendicular to the string. This will cause the arrow to life off your hand when you release creating clearance in the vertical dimension. Next you need to properly spline the shafts. A properly splined shaft will flex away from the bow at release, it will then invert the flex to clear the fletching. Once these two things are done correctly you will not have any contact of the arrow with the bow after release. The third thing you need to do is correct the FOC of your arrows (front of center). The FOC is too low. This causes equal pressure on equal mass and causes the arrow to "wobble" which in reality is a pendulum effect created by air pressure pushing back and forth on the shaft of the arrow. Since your balance point is too far back, the fletching don't have enough leverage to correct it. Fletching effectiveness is derived from the the distance they are away from the balance point. The balance point is a fulcrum and the fletching are a lever.

Your preferences in shooting are fine. Your form needs work. The techniques you are describing later in the video are compensations for bad form, and improper equipment setup. I agree with your stance in defending your preferences, because there is nothing wrong with how you want to shoot.
