patreon

I need help with deciding on something!

Hello everyone. This is my first time kinda reaching out to you folks like this, but since not every patron is on the discord server, I figured it might be the best way to approach.

It's nothing serious. I just...got hit by this...INSPIRATION last month. I was kinda pondering on what kinda silly butt-comics I can draw next...and I suddenly got this...Idea of wanting to make a patreon exclusive webcomic that ties all the previous silly little lood comics and short comics I've made into one canon.

I've been mulling it over...And I've been trying to do a simple manuscript of such a comic...But I kinda have an issue.

I've got a few too many pans on fire. Or to put it otherwise. I'm SLIGHTLY overworked. I'm working on Among the Sheep, my next big comic project 6 pages per week and I'm in the process of trying to find a publisher for it. I'm also streaming on twitch.tv actively...Hosting a
full custom pathfinder campaign as the DM...Working as a director and primary artist on a simple dating sim visual novel...Working on a bunch of commissions...And also of course all the patreon content.

So I find myself worrying, that if I do begin a webcomic...I might end up being super inconsistent with the page amounts...and that might stress me out a lot...which again makes it harder for me to focus.

Admittedly, making it into a webcomic would be my personal preference, but I do have a bad habit of stretching myself a bit thin. So I was wondering on how I can make it work...

Today morning as I woke up like...right now. I figured that I could use the same formula I did with the Mooyuki comic "Moo for me". Where I write most of the filler out in text and illustrate the important parts...I have a better way of making it work than just making jpegs of the text pages too.

The idea would essentially be that I write a light novel of loods and stuff it full of illustrations of varying magnitudes, some black and white, some sketchy, some colored etc. Through making it a readable PDF file I could include links to all the previous and upcoming comics it references, so it could also be used as a hub to find a bunch of the comics here on Patreon....

But the main issue with it is, that I'm not really particularly known for my writing. I've always been a visual kinda author...and I fear making it have a lot of text would alienate a part of the crowd. I am a professionally published author, so I don't particularly have confidence issues with my writing....But it would still be a bit less easy for a lot of folks to digest, I'm sure.  The benefit of making it text based however, is that it would ensure I would be able to produce a lot of content for it every month. And I know at least a part of my audience cares much more about the loods than the ....production values.

So I wanted to ask you guys. Let's have a vote. What would you prefer?
---------------------------
MAKE A WEBCOMIC!

+Positives: Pretty as hell. Easily approachable.

-Negatives: A ton of work. Inconsistent posting schedule.

MAKE A LIGHT NOVEL

+Positives: Very easy to make. Ensures a ton of content.

-Negatives: Not for people who dislike reading. Less visually impactful.

You can also share your thoughts on the matter on our discord server! If you don't wish to make a direct comment here, let's see... Drop a like on this post if you'd be okay with a light novel. If there are a few likes I'll assume people are generally more into that.

xD Don't worry about it!! It's all good. Generally the easy way to think about it, is the longer ya gotta scroll down, the older the posts. Patreon is a bit wonky with how hard some things are to see. I just found out some people didn't figure out there are download links to extended content in some of my posts. I should prolly make a post about that... But yeah. Don't worry about it! And it's a double edged sword. There are good things to it and bad things to it. I'm pretty okay with having to work for the content people pay for. I'd just feel kinda stupid for accepting money for nothing. xD

๐Ÿ˜… well I feel dumb. Lol. I signed up for Patreon a while ago but youโ€™re the first person Iโ€™ve ever backed so I donโ€™t know how to navigate just yet. I just saw this and assumed it was relatively new. Thatโ€™s a bummer on Finland law. ๐Ÿ˜•

xD HOI! Since this one was asked like....a LONG time ago, I already started the thing as a Light Novel series. I appreciate the friendly thoughts over my health though! But here in Finland it's illegal to get money without giving something in exchange for it, even through patreon. So I am legally obligated to produce content every month no matter what. So unfortunately just,,,kinda doing it when I feel like it isn't an option if I wanna stay legal about it.

Iโ€™m going with a webcomic. Though, to be honest, I can wait however long it takes. I want the visuals but burnout is real. Please donโ€™t do that for our sake. I say write out the important bits that way you donโ€™t forget, then throw that hoe on the back burner. Once you have enough time to do this AND lead a normal, not-stressed-out existence, bring it back up. Your health over everything.
