Gungi Gungi Gungi Gungi!!!! The King is playing Gungi!!!!! While that happens, for some weird reason the Hunters catch a break in their preparations to invade the castle. Why would what be? King's just in there playing gungi after all.

Another banger episode, devastated to realize I'm up to date again and will have to wait for more excellent hxh discussion. Also crazy about the way the discussion draws parallels in my brain that I can't talk about because spoilers but I have full faith the team is seeding on purpose. No one is doing it like you guys!!!

2024-12-24 14:56:15 +0000 UTCMy feeling is just that Wing and Bisky are more teachers than fighters. Wing is gentle and concerned about the future/composition of the Hunters and Bisky is too, but she's also self interested. Bisky is Knov/Morel level easily imo. But I agree about Gon's Ws

2024-12-24 14:39:59 +0000 UTCI think the short little aside about if Gon and Killua could beat Wing is an interesting thing, even outside of powerscaling nonsense, because it kind of emphasizes how we don't REALLY get a good read on how strong teachers like Wing and Bisky are. We see Bisky flatten that one guy, and we know she's way more experienced and way stronger than Gon and Killua, but also she's not coming on the extermination team. It's kind of interesting to me because I think it shows a little bit about how stories will privilege the protagonists, kind of? Like, if you really, REALLY think about it, Gon has very little significant Ws to his name, and the Ws he does have are against weak opponents or because of something beyond strength and skill. But as the viewer, we still see him as BEING strong because we're always in his perspective.

2024-12-19 04:35:12 +0000 UTCI may have missed some discussion of this somewhere along the line, but has the use of the Dies Irae four-note motif come up at all? I keep noticing it in the Pitou theme (ex. piano and guitar behind the clip of Knov freaking out in this episode), and it's just one of my favorite musical references that pops up all over the place. Thanks for the episode!

2024-12-18 07:51:36 +0000 UTCI always felt like the meat orchard was another (perhaps hamfisted) example of the chimera ants echoing the worst things humans have done to each other. Calling the victims "bizarre fruit" makes the parallel to Billie Holiday's song "Strange Fruit" and racist lynching in the US pretty up front. Not sure what new it adds to the conversation, except maybe it emphasizes the element of dehumanization and how that enables their violence, whether from the ants to humans or from the hunters to the ants. of course dehumanization is a weird word given the context :S
