"This Will Be Our Year" Ear Training and Song Analysis

Where to Start • Lesson Archive • Recommended Lesson PlanBook a Private Lesson

Hi Everyone,

This was a tricky one! Lot's of chromatic movement and funky chords outside the key. It took a while to pin down, but the results are pretty cool!

This is an example of why it's so important to understand the diatonic chords in a key, the main secondary dominants, and the concept of V of X.

We also touch on minor iv chords in a Major key and the weird substitution of the relative major, or are we borrowing the VI chord from the parallel minor key?

You might like this lesson on Dominant Chords if you want to understand a few things going on in this lesson.

This one's more of a doozy than anticipated. Also, that's some interesting chromatic movement.
