Videos for January 24th - 30th

I'm back from a bit of a break after the 11 or so CES videos!

Right now there isn't a solid plan in terms of video schedule for the week, there's just a lot of hardware under embargo being tested, however roughly speaking this is hopefully what will happen:

25th: MSI GE76 12UHS (12900HK/3080 Ti) game benchmarks

27th: RTX 3050 vs 6500 XT?

I have the RTX 3050, but not sure if the 6500 XT is going to turn up. It's meant to come this week, but not sure what the deal is. If it doesn't come, I'm not sure what I'll do with the 3050. It might be good to do a 3050 laptop vs desktop comparison, but I don't have any 3050 laptops here right now.

The 12th gen GE76 arrived a few hours ago, so testing that is the priority right now. My partner has started game testing it and the 11th gen + 3080 GE76. The plan is to use the 16 game data graphs from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbn1P0y06Hg so some older games in there for sake of comparison, but I think it will be cool to show how the 12900HK+3080 Ti stack up vs 16 other GPUs.

Once that's done, I'm planning on working on a 11980HK vs 12900HK CPU comparison. This probably won't include any games unfortunately as both laptops have different GPUs (3080 vs 3080 Ti), plus game results from both will be in the aforementioned video. This one will be a bit more work, as I'm going to have to play with power limits on both to get them in a somewhat fairly comparable state, hopefully this will be a video for next week.

Once that's done there will be a full review of the GE76, but don't expect that until at least the week after.

I've got 2x XMG Neo 15 laptops in the mail right now with XMG Oasis liquid cooling units. These should be i7-12700H CPU and 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti, so they will allow me to do a fair GPU comparison between these new Ti options as well as a look at liquid cooling. These are estimated to arrive here at the start of February, so can't do much there yet. I hope they do a Ryzen option in future so I can do a fair Intel vs Ryzen comparison like last year, I think those videos were great (of course I am biased).

I haven't forgotten about the MacBook Pro 16! If you've been in Discord you've probably seen me testing it out for audio recording, so getting some real world use in as I still learn how to use iOS lol. I have had it for a couple months now and not sure when Hardware Unboxed might want it back.

Otherwise there are no solid plans for other laptops just yet, but I'm sure this will change very soon, it's just that no companies have yet mentioned that stuff is on the way to me. I would expect ASUS for instance to have some stuff available soon, they're usually able to get me stuff relatively early.

I've also finished testing for a 12400F vs 5600X comparison which was going to be this week, but I managed to get a video sponsor for it and the ad spot won't be ready for a week or two. Given the CPU comparisons tend to do well long term from search traffic I don't think it will matter a whole lot if I don't post it ASAP.

I'd expect in a week or two a more regular video schedule to be known ahead of time, it's just that we're still in the early stages of working out what new stuff will make its way here.

Yeah waiting for the GE76 video too. Laptop prices are insanely high this year and I’m considering just building a desktop. I have a 3080 ti and just ordered a 12700k if there’s not much difference in gaming performance this year, I’m just going to build, then maybe find a good cheap used 2021 gaming laptop for when I’m on the move.

FUCK YES, I WAS WAITING FOR THE GE76 VIDEO!!!
