Don't'cha love previews? :D
Gryff is one of the character concepts I've put together (this one quite recently AKA all of twenty minutes ago) for the eventual sequel to Caves and Critters, so you won't see him around for some time yet - but I'm already in love with his design.
Gryff Elroy is a priest of the much-reduced Church of the Divine Mother; following events of the 200 years between CnC and it's sequel, the Theocracy has lost much of it's former influence and power.
That has done little to dissuade it's most faithful followers however, of which Gryff is one such individual. The Tenets were his first book, the chapel his first home, and the control of the spiritual magics that the Divine Mother blesses her faithful with came as naturally to him as breathing.
Already in his 50s by the time the sequel begins, Gryff does his utmost to uphold the tenets of the Church in his every moment, and vehemently denies the beliefs of any of the many alternative religions that have 'sprung up' in the past few centuries. Amongst these is a belief, personal though it may be, that a holy man should remain unconcerned with matters of the flesh.
Regrettably (to him), Gryff's body is less willing to listen to him than he'd like, and a lifetime of repressed sexual urges and denying himself the chance for release at almost all opportunities - which a handsome fellow like himself gets quite often - has done nothing more than make him even easier to arouse. He takes no shame in his attraction to other men, but (usually) settles for meditative exercises to placate his arousal.
Of course, this doesn't always work... as you'll have every chance to see once we get round to the sequel. ;)
