Why? 'cos.
To make a short story long, I realised that I couldn't think of a shonen-style or action-heavy comic or story where the leading hero is anything but white.
And I don't mean characters like Black Panther in DC comics, or the black Spiderman, or the black Hermione in the new HP play; I mean a universe where the 'original' hero, the Superman or Captain America or Harry Potter or whoever equivalent, is black.
Not that I think it's ever been done out of genuine discrimination, as people will naturally visualise and thus draw and/or colour something in a way that suits what they're personally most used to.
Heck, that's why I originally made Lukan white.
But then I thought about it, and decided to tweak the colours to see how he'd look. And I think he looks pretty good like that.
It won't make any difference to his character, his personality, his speech or anything else, because why should it? Lukan is Lukan. Were "White Moon Waning" a purely written piece I just wouldn't mention his skin colour at all, and I'd just leave it up to the reader to interpret, but it isn't, so I can't.
In a Furry world like Caves and Critters or Nanotech Legends it's a moot point; everybody's a talking animal so concepts like skin colour just don't exist. But in a world where the majority of the cast are/will be human, I figured it's high time we have a black protagonist.
But yeah. Just thought the update would be fun to fill you all in on. :D
