D&D Contest, Week 1: It's a Trap!

Hey folks!

Wizards of the Coast is currently running a contest to crown the best dungeon master. This contest will offer a series of submission guidelines over a number of weeks. This culminates in a streamed actual play presentation. The winner gets a bunch of D&D swag.

The problem is, Wizards retains the rights to everything that gets submitted. While I understand why a company might include this kind of language in their content submission guidelines, I also can understand why it feels like content farming. No matter how you slice it, it's a big waste of good talent.

Well, I don't work for Wizards. I work for you! So, I'll be following along with the contest and making "entries" that will be exclusively available as PDFs to you on the ThinkDM Patreon.

Here's week 1's PDF, a special trap called The Giant's Hourglass.

Comments

I love this trap! If the room is 30ft in diameter, wouldn't they immediately fall into the bottom room when they fail their save, even when if they fail by less than 5? By moving 15ft, wouldn't they get to the center each time? Definitely planning on using it for a one-shot I'm making

I like that too! I kind of left it open as to what it looks like *outside* the hourglass or how/where the party gets in, since I could imagine a bunch of creative scenarios for that, and adding details was only adding constraints. I really liked the idea that the party would have to go through one way, and then go back the other to escape. A whole new puzzle! I *had not* considered them entering while it's sideways. That's certainly a creative twist!
