Idea Workshop: Tarot-based subclass
Added 2020-12-19 19:30:52 +0000 UTCI'm tinkering with a tarot-based subclass. This is my first pass at trying to cobble together some features based on the Major Arcana.
It's looking like a cleric. I like the fact that the subclass features are frontloaded (1/2/6/8/17), which will allow me to give the player access to card manipulation features are earlier level. I also like how "Channel Divinity" thematically pairs with drawing extra cards.
What class would you like to see this built for?

I think that a Pact Boon for Warlock would be very fun, but I think that doing something with Int based or Cha based casting classes might be interesting just because it would take a good Int to interpret the cards and any Tarot Reader would want a decent Cha to sell the act
2020-12-21 21:30:24 +0000 UTCI love the idea of a tarot subclass! I think the UA SpookyStories(tm) Bard has a really interesting application of a "random powers table". What I like most about it is that there is one table for the whole lifespan of the subclass. However the higher level options are elegantly unlocked as the bardic inspiration die grows in size. I wonder if you could port that mechanic for this tarot theme, even if it's not a Bard subclass.
