Natasha’s Last Day, YT Sucks, Trampoline! | Weekly Catchup

We were filming in Koenji today, a really chill district of Tokyo - famous for its parks, vegan cafes and thrift stores!! I got a reeeeeally bad sunburn and heatstroke, but OTHER THAN THAT a great day😂
In other news, YouTube emailed creators this morning to let us know it will be removing the ability for viewers to submit captions and subtitles, and suggested we use some paid service instead. I’m so pissed they’ve decided to try to make money off of this feature that meant so much to a lot of us. Not many creators can afford to subtitle their videos, so this will make them unaccessible to so many people. I’ve got this really awesome Spanish-speaking viewer who has been subtitling every single one of my videos for years, and because of him I’ve got about 5% Spanish speaking viewership! Unfortunately my videos now won’t have Spanish subtitles anymore, how shitty is that for my Spanish viewers. I’m so bummed about this :( YouTube just continues to disappoint with bad decisions over and over again, wish they’d do something good for once.
In good news my trampoline arrived, can’t wait to set it up in my living room😂

2020-08-14 12:44:06 +0000 UTCYoutube, man... :/ Given that pretty much all my viewing habits are catered for by that site, it's difficult to envision a situation where content creators are able to successfully migrate to another more competently run platform. I do worry about the future of YT. They seem to be slowly petrifying into a tedious "design-by-committee" media outlet that may very well go the way of terrestrial television. The people running YT seem pretty committed to that sidelining interesting channels in favour of the bog-standard and overproduced, in the long-term. Sorry to hear they've delivered a bespoke hand-selected fly straight into your ointment Sharla. I wonder if that goon Logan Paul or that ghastly Stauffer couple have to deal with this nonsense?
