"Sixty-four dead, workers and civilians. No more, thanks to God and Vista. I looked at the still smoking rubble of the factory, hazmat and fire trucks working around it. The city was quiet- both the ABB and E88 mentioned that they would treat the next week as a truce period.
But the damage would take far longer. The factory was bad enough-- a total loss, but nearly a dozen neighboring businesses had been destroyed. Newly seven hundred apartment units destroyed or rendered unusable.
The fact that it could have been worse was cold comfort. I had run the calculations, my bugs working away. Months of work and needing to learn how to financially go after gangs had left me well equipped for this, and the city was going to be hurt. hurt badly.
Someone had nearly killed Aisha. Someone, likely a lot of Someones had ignored what was going on, or benefitted from it.
Someone was going to have a very bad day."
