Nurgle was the nightmare of the Old Ones, they shucked themselves of physical bodies because illness was the last thing they couldn't defeat. Khorne and Tzeentch came from earlier races that died off (probably from creating Khorne and Tzeentch), and Slaanesh is in the image of the Aeldari. The same will happen to the Emperor of Mankind once someone finally unplugs his life support.
