Reviewing your Week 3 Submissions

A hearty applause to everyone who submitted compositions for week 3! The results were outstanding IMO, and I've reviewed them all in the video here: https://youtu.be/w-Ebhv9aJnw

Tonight we'll be conquering the melodic minor scale while expanding our options in the minor key. I'll post a 1 hour before start so stay tuned...

Jake, thanks for your extensive feedback. I can see, when compared to other submissions, and your examples, that really my attempt at modal mixture wasn't quite there. I got an idea and just rolled with it. So yes I may have strayed away from the prompt. I think for the next assignment, I'm going simpler and sticking closely to what's asked for. And thanks for the drum software recommendation.

Thanks so much, Jake! I'll take a Toto comparison as a HUGE compliment!

Thanks, Jake - the additional in-depth commentary due to fewer entries is appreciated. Also, I agree about the electric guitar part being incongruent; I was at the mercy of a 7 year-old creative director...that said, he has requested the lullaby each night since I made it, so I'll score that as a hit with my audience of 1.

Definitely appreciate the feedback Jake! In my case I'm new to writing with modes (and just writing in general) so every bit of critique really helps. You may appreciate this... you say you heard the A section as F#, I honestly didn't - but after submitting I absolutely started to hear F# as 'home' when it comes back to the main progression from the D - B detour. I was really pleased with how that sounded, then I started wondering why it felt so satisfying, when it hit me! That sounds like home! Great notes, thanks again.

Thanks for the feedback, Jake! Yes, that C#m7 wasn't supposed to be typed on the change. I was half asleep describing what I did :D
